Ok, well Seems like I've been getting a little white smoke out that back...thinking ok its been cold you usually get a little but i have been getting more than normal....Well last night I was parked waiting for a someone and noticed it was a little heavy so i shut it down and jusy sat in the cold...restarted it later and it seemed to be ok, drove to the mall seemed to be fine...stupid amp red lights (no big deal i have a spare that I was going to put in anyways) but this is the second time its failed and I've owned the car less than 2 years and the head unit went a second time 2 weeks ago...so I'm already getting pissy about this...leaving the mall later i get the nice squeal from the drive belts...mind you i just replaced them 2 weeks ago, ok well i guess i just need to adjust them again since the have worn in a littl, fine I'll do that no biggy...stay at my GF over night, go to leave there in the AM to run home and get ready for work...get a little bit of white smoke and getting pissed again since it shouldn't be dong this...drive home and yup had the cloud follow me all the way...only disipated when i was going over 35 but was there at stop signs and such, get it home and put it in the garage to take a look at it and see whats up...my catch can is frozen...so there is apparently moister in there, pull the oil cap, white gunk on the inside of the cap (notice some oil leaked around the cap and around the valve cover, wasn't the 2 weeks ago, check the dip stick I'm full but its a little dirty and again some white build up on the end...look in the rad everything seems to be ok there no oil in the coolant...Looked at the turbo, has some grim on it and then notice some fresh oil on the dwn pipe underneith the turbo, ugh...well i did a compression test too but from search on here the numbers seem high (200, 200, 200, 205) I an the tes twice and had the same numbers...I pulled the coil pack s out and pulled the main/fuel pump relay and pushed the clutch and gas pedal to the floor cranked the motor over 5-7 times, seemd to be the proper way, let me know if I missed something...I've vry concerned about the white sludge in the oil (Mobile 1 synth 5w30 or 10w30, I acctually forget which i used last time) and I have had some excess valve noise so I think i am going to swith to something else RP maybe? Well i am going to rip the car down this weekend and see if there is shaft paly in the turbo...I think, if possible there may have been moister in the oil and it may have thinned it out and thats why it leaked through the seals?? (I hope)

Well please anyone who has had similar experience or any path to look down let me know I need to get this car back on the road asap...this is just my D, never abused, routinely change the oil 2500-3000 miles just changed the PCV, seafoamed, RP tranny fluid, air filter, and drive belts 2 weeks ago along with installing my catch-can...which is possible I may have screwed that up but it seems to be correct to me:

PCV----------

VC-- |

Vac sources (pre-turbo) on Intake pipe
(stock port for VC)

Thanks for any help...Matt

63K miles
Stock MSP
Denso Iridium Plugs
HomeDepot Catch can

Well my little diagram didn't work, here are some pics for the catch-can set-up:

The stock vac port is being used for my boost guage...the PCV(stock Protege PCV) runs to the one side of the "T" the valve cover runs to the bottom of the "T" the the other side of the "T" runs to the catch can...the catch can is using the stock VC port fon the intake pipe or a vacuum source, pre-turbo so it should never see boost and allow the valve to open properly...someone correct me if I am wrong...it has bee working properly i believe it has been filling up with fluid, has a little bit of a gasy/oily smell to me...this is how i run it on my CRX and it seems to work there and have the same fluid, let me know, thanks...Matt

I dunno about the catch can setup, but try using a fluorescent or strong white led light and see if it makes your oil glow green. If so, you have coolant in your oil and that's a pretty good indication that the head gasket is leaking. Leaking head gaskets cause you to burn coolant.

Yea I'll have to try that method with LED light..but if i did compression test properly the numbers seem good, but i have read the numbers should be around 150-170...so 200 is hight and i seafoamed the motor 2 weeks ago so any carbon build up should have been cut down and not cause high compression numbers...

i have to regretfuly tell you you might have a craked cylinder head. as you know metal expands with heat and shrinks when cooled. i had the same problem with a 87 mazda 323.

Ah yes I should do the test fully warmed up, it was semi warm since i drove home but didn't do the test for a while after...i will try that tonight...no sweat I have a spare 2.0L motor out of a 02 Protege...so worse case i can throw that in this weekend but I think this experience is going to make get rid of my MSP...

i just hate how i beat the crap out of my CRX and it runs awesome and this car i just use to drive to work and stuff and it has given me more problems, even thoug some stupid small ones, in less than 2 years than my old tired beat up CRX has in 5+

I'll redo compression test with motor warm and see what numbers I get...

Well didn't even get to do a good warm compression test, we did a cold one just to see again, same numbers, so then I started it up and it sounded like crap and was running really ruff, almost like the timing was off...so we decide to start tearing it down...intake and charge pipping are filled with oil...looking down into the compressor housing there is a huge puddle in it...I think i found my problem...ugh
