Phen's China Adventure

Glad the Vienam trip is going well Phen.....also glad that Evan waited to come out of the closet AFTER I stayed at the house.

Hahaha! Okay okay, back on topic now. He's going to wake up and read this thread and be like "wtf?".

Are you back in China now, Phen? I'm pretty sure you said Tuesday but the 12 hour time difference is wonky. Oh, and Audz said "Gimmie a ******* banana.." yesterday and I think you're probably the only other person who knows that Eddie Izzard line.

It is 4am Tuesday there....guess it depends on when he was set to arrive 'home'?

Hahahaha. Oh you guys. My friends on this forum are some of the most entertaining folks I've ever met.

anyway, yes, I've returned to Beijing. Plane landed at about 2:40pm and it took until about 5:30pm for me to get home. Traffic was crazy and I had to check in at the police station again.

Let's see... what day did I leave off on? Ah hell, I don't remember. I'll sum up the Vietnam trip.

It was hot as ****.
Flew into Hanoi on Tuesday the 14th. Stayed at the Ocean Hotel II in Hanoi that night.
Wake up early on Wednesday the 15th. Hop in a Mercedes Sprinter and begin the 450 km drive to a beach "resort" south of the job site. Nice place. Located right on the South China Sea. I have pics that I'll upload as soon as I feel like spending more time on the computer.
Job site for a meeting on Thursday the 16th. Our thrifty project manager decides to go to a different hotel where some other folks were staying. This hotel was located in Ky Ahn, and affectionately became known as "The Green Monster." Premium rooms were $22 USD. I slept with a T-shirt on my head because I didn't trust the pillow.
Meetings on the 16th thru the 18th. Drive back to Hanoi on the 19th. Spend the 19th and 20th nights at the Ocean Hotel II. It resembled a 5 star hotel after the green monster.
Went exploring Hanoi on the 20th. Walked around a bit, did some souvenier shopping... sweated my balls off. 98 degrees with 80% humidity. Felt like 114.
Flew home today. Back in Beijing. Relaxing now.

I've learned something about the difference between Chinese women and Vietnamese women.
Vietnamese women have some ass. There were a few... holy s*** man! Tiny girls with ass.

Ok, just had to throw that out there. LOL.

Waiting for Ike....(popcorn) lol

Damn dude, that's nuts that you slept with a t-shirt over your head. I'll let you know Tams response....she was freaking out this past weekend reading about the bed bugs at Lehigh Univ.

Haha, I remember putting my tshirt on a pillow at some place, but I can't think where it was. Survival of the fittest tourist!

So what kind of music is playing over yonder? I assume it's mostly traditional Chinese but with pop music beats and production to make it "hip"? Have you heard any cool local bands now that you've found the bars? Anything you've heard on the radio you would buy?

When I was in Beijing, I listened to the radio just to do it and there was Chinese pop rock-y stuff, and they played I'd say at least 60% American music on the channel I heard. I don't know what kind of station it was, and during a commercial brake the guy rattled off something like, "*insert Chinese* Top 40 *more Chinese." Haha, that was all I heard. The most interesting were the songs that sounded modern, and half the lyrics were in Chinese and half were in English. I didn't see any live performances, besides one in Tibet, and that was traditional folk accompaniment for a play/performance.

Phen, I hope you don't think I'm here trying to steal your thunder. If you don't like these bits I add, just tell me and I'll go hide in a corner.
