perrin intake + apexi filter + forge bov = slight stalling issue

I got the perrin sri intake with a apexi filter and a forge bov, i was running the forge for a couple of days with stock intake and the car drove fine.

since ive put the perrin on if you rev up and let off or drop it to N the rpms drop to about 500 and it almosts stalls, the check engine lights do not come on most of the time.

I have the one inlet on the intake caped off where the stock bpv would go into.

anyone have any ideas on what could be happing?

not enuf air for the gas the car is throwing in. i got the same problem. im assuming u got a msp. there are a bunch of other threads about stalling with a bov. only few soulutions i heard of are running the bpv with the bov and getting some type of engine management to change the air fuel ratios.

i realy dont see its not getting enough air, Like i said it was running fine with the stock intake, and when i installed the perrin is when this started.

now i could see it doing it with the stock intake but not with the perrin.

looks like you need to run the dual bpv/bov setup, should solve your problem.

I also heard that the earlier versions of the perrin intake had really bad stalling problems due to poor engineering...So depending on where you got your intake from, used or not, you could have one that wasn't designed properly. Just what I have heard about the intake.

I have an Injen CAI and Forge BOV. Mine stalled out when I would get on it and stop all of a sudden or after getting off at a ramp on the highway. I think its just the Forge BOV. After I installed the Unichip, it prevents it from stalling out. It gets pretty close to it and all the dummy lights go on, but it bounces right back up because of the system. It wont let it happen. I'm also going to be running a dual set-up in a few days and get rid of my Forge. One because I wasn't all that thrilled with it before I put on the Unichip and two, I wont need it. Some people like it and it works great for them, others, it wont.

corksport sells unichip, but you can get it from horsepowerfreaks.com also, and likely for a little less than from corksport.

call em up and ask for ben. tell him i sent ya

The reason your perrin is stalling is because it is a SRI. I had that problem too. There is a little bit of blow back since the MAF is so close to the turbo. When that air blows back past the maf in the wrong direction the MAF freaks out and your car wants to stall.

You need to recirculate some air and use the 90 elbow to direct that recirculated air into the intake and away from the MAF.

You could also try buying some sort of elbow that puts 1 bend in between the turbo and MAF. Not sure if this would work since I haven't tried it, but it makes sence that it could prohibit the flow of blowback air from making it far enough up the pipe to reach the MAF.

I solved the problem by recirculating my greddy.

TX, im not recricing now, i have that part of the perrin capped off. how is there air moving back up the intake to hit maf if im not recircing air back into the intake?

im not saying its not, just wondering how.

I saw that someone moved there maf to the cold pipe that proboly would solve my problem, but how long could the maf stand that.

ron what source are you using for vacuum for your forge BOV? is it is not opening quick enough you could be getting air coming back through the system toward the MAF

its using the stock vac line that the bpv uses, i was thinking the same thing maybe its not getting enuf vac so im planing on changing vac source to the brake booster line.

right now im waiting on getting hardpipes to see if that affects anything before i tap the brake booster line.

me and shannon have a couple of things that we are going to work on to see if we can fix the problem.

yeah definatly tap the brake booster line anyway and run the wastegate its own line it is much better in the long run. I did it before i installed my hardpipes and i was running a blitz BOV...the blitz wouldnt work on the stock vacuum line. I am now running hardpipes, greddy type s and stock BPV and it runs great i have the type s running off the brake booster and the stock running off the wastegate line.

i got the DSMconvert pipes

i cant justify the turbo hoses harpipes when these are half the price. They look great, work fine, and clean up the engine bay the only downsides are the placement of the BOV flange and they do require a bit of time to get on the car.

im not getting a bov flange on them since i got the forge, if i can get it working correctly that is.

ive been thinking all day today about how i can run this setup and recirc some air back in to see if that solves the rpm drop issue.

but im going to leave it go till i get the hardpipes installed just to see if it goes away
