Pcv Woes

well I took my car into Fitzgerald of annapolis to get that pesky p2187 code checked. I don't think they checked that valve but they did tell me to replace my pcv hose and they would charge 385 to fix it. I said "Um no I think I'll pass thanks" thinking it couldn't be that hard. Now my question is can you get the pcv valve and the pcv hose off without taking off the intake manifold? From the looks of the diagram I had mazda print me out you can't get to either without the manifold off and its 15 dollars a piece for the o-rings they use as gaskets. The other question is should this kind of repair be covered under warranty? Because I'm thinking a pcv hose shouldn't break in 52k miles. (Yes I have the extended 100k warranty)

well i might be taking the intake manifold off tonight. I was wondering what are the torque specs for the intake manifold bolts?

WTF does the PCV valve s*** have ANYTHING to do with the damn P2187 code? good god, get that ******* purge valve replaced already! I'm sick and tired of hearing about your bulls***

i wish it was as simple as driving up to the dealer and having them fix it. Unfortunatley the only dealer that i can get to easily won't fix my car because they are dumb. I don't really have time to go drive an hour to the next closest dealer and wait for god knows how long to have them fix it. Also while the valve may be broken it is not the cause of my rough idle. I took the whole tube off and put a hose in its place. Crappy idle. Blocked the hose off at the manifold end. Crappy idle. I mean I might not have proven anything but it seems like that valve isn't the cause of my bad idle. The only reason I am asking about the pcv valve is I have one anyways and wanted to replace it. I beileve in fixing things before they go bad.

the PCV valve is NOT the cause of your idle issues, leave it alone! the MZR engines are designed to have a "lifetime" PCV valve

I told you before, you need to get on that phone NOW and call mazda and tell them what happened to you... and then you need to get your refund from that bad dealership, if not dispute the charges with your credit card company (if that's what you used to pay)... then go to the other dealer to fix this s*** for free since you PAID the extended warranty already... it should take NO MORE than 1 hour to diagnose and replace this purge valve... call THAT dealer and tell them you are far away and want it taken cared of ASAP after you get there... tell them you don't want to spend more than 2 hours there

you NEED to be more assertive in getting s*** done
so get off your ass and get on that phone NOW!

Well after I get that valve replaced what should I look at if my idle still sucks?

Edit: I got everything printed out and I am going straigh to Rich Morton Mazda of Pasadena to get it fixed. My stepdad knows a guy that is high up at fitzgerald that is getting my money back for the crap they didn't fix.

ok, perhaps I have to spell it out to you...

IT WILL FIX YOUR IDLE

your idle sucks because that purge valve is stuck open which makes your engine act like there's a vacuum leak and there is... sort of

I just have a feeling that with my luck it won't but I will take your word for it and see what happens tomorrow.

heres the thing i took my car in to be looked at. they replaced that part and they say it still runs like crap and that the splice i did for my a/f gauge is causing the problem (yeah, right). They are feeding me some bulls*** about how they have to replace like 6 wires to the ecu before than can figure out whats wrong. I mean its all free but on tuesday they will have had my car for a week just to fix a crappy idle. Right now I am looking for a different car because it doesn't look like my 3 is going to last over 100k since its broken a grease boot, motor mount, and now this. My focus didn't have this many problems.

sorry to hear that. I don't think a splice off a wire would cause a bad idle unless you accidentally cut into something else. I just need a service manager to sit in the car while it's idling to know something's up. Hopefully they'll be nice enough to replace mine. My last dealership told me it was "normal" because it's lowered and charged me $89 (35 for diagnosis/54 for a rental).

hm... crappy idle-- did they tell you anything about the MAF sensor?

btw, congrats- your 1000th post :)

lol thanks. The maf still works and I don't get any codes from that. Anyways they said it will be ready tomorow morning and it runs fine now. I don't expect any of my gauges to work correctly when I get the car back but if it doesn't idle rough I'll be happy. I am paying 100 (deductable) so its pretty cheap.

EDIT: Get the car back tomorrow. I'll let you know what they "fixed" on the repair order.

got mine and they couldn't find anything wrong. they added that the excessive rear brake dust is normal. After feeling the idle (only had 8k) of a focus rental for a whole day, i guess I can live with mine (26k).... until i finally get that damn purge valve CEL. I'll see if I can get one for cheap.

that's the last time i'm taking my car to a dealership for "little repairs". last one gave me 1 scratch, this one gave me 2 new fresh ones.

yeah when i took mine in they replaced the pcv valve, the pcv valve hose, the throttle body gasket, the gaskets to the intake manifold, and that purge valve and hose. engine still vibrates the car at idle. I am going to try switching to amsoil oil since i did that in my focus and it helped with the rough idle.

it will vibrate... make sure you have your hvac control set to the left side of the dial otherwise your ac is cycling on/off regardless if you have the fan on or not...

regardless if you turn the ac on if you hvac control is turned to noon or after it will cycle it on off and can cause more engine vibration... but it would be a cyclic thing and probably not what you are experiencing

well i'm gonna try putting some quality oil and a quality (read "not cosmo racing") intake on and go from there.
