NB1 TomTom Infotainment woes - firmware upgrade?

I bought a used 2014 CX5 back in November, and although I love the car itself, the NB1 infotainment system - particularly using USB - sucks!

I initially had problems with using USB sticks, and it ALWAYS started at track 1. Did nobody bother to test this before releasing it?
Finally discovered there was a replacement Bluetooth module with later firmware, so bought a few different ones until I finally got one the rare one that didn't start at track 1. Moderately expensive and had to be imported from Lithuanian ebay. But it worked.

Since then, I've been using a SATA3 SSD in a USB2.0 caddy (to limit it to USB2.0 standard) with extra power provided from the nearby cigar lighter.
This worked fine for several months. 7300+ tracks available!
Yes it was slow to index that many on startup, but it worked.

But after adding a few more files to the SSD, it doesn't work any more.
USB starts up, runs for a minute or so, and then shuts down again and reboots.
Maybe the extra tracks pushed it over a limit, so I deleted a lot. It now has around 6500, far fewer than I had before.
I also checked for long filenames, bad chars in filenames etc. and fixed them all.
This is how it is, now.

I do get various messages such as "Preparing for connection" and "USB Reading", and then it shuts down again.
Sometimes it resumes the first track (I now hate it, having heard it so often!) but it won't then go to the next one.

More worryingly, it won't read a USB stick either. Again, it plays to the end of track one and then goes silent instead of moving to next track.

So, is there a firmware update for the NB1 that will solve my woes?
