Painting interior pieces

Hey guys, I would like to paint my A and B pillars, along with the front door window trim pieces and possibly the radio panel flat black. Can I use a standard flat black paint on these pieces?

You can paint it what ever color you want. lol I would recommend giving it a light sand with some 1000 grit or so. Then a couple coats of primer then paint. I would wait like a day before putting them back in or let them sit in the sun for a long time.

But why flat black? lol

some people put rubbing alcohol after sanding to help the paint stick better as well. and yes, dont put them on asap. let them for a day or two. your car will smell like paint and you may mess up the paint while installing (finger prints, scrapes, etc)

Yea fingerprints are a big problem. lol Yea rub some alcohol or acetone with a cloth to get all the fine particles out.

Also when you sand it make sure you wet sand.

The trick wth plastic is all in the preparation. TO do it the right way with good results, do it in 4 steps.

1. Wash with ammonia based cleaner to remove any dirt or residue. You can even use windex.

2. Use Plastic Prep. Dupont Makes one: Plas-Stick 2319S or 38354 SEM Plastic Prep

3. Use Adhesion Promoter Same companies make it, also 3M has one.

4. Paint the part with your paint of choice.

Any auto body supply shop will have all of those in stock.

Follow the guys step process.. although i never have used those products and my paint has always stayed nice and strong.

I would recommend clearing it though. Get a Matte Clear if you want it to stay flat black.

I ended up painting them already, here are pics:

I sanded the parts with 800 grit sandpaper, wiped down with rubbing alcohol, painted 2 coats of primer, let dry, 3 coats of flat black paint, and then 2 coats of clear (on everything but the A pillars).

noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

flat or matte looks 1000000 times better. but i loike your pillars, never thought about doing mine..... till now...

yea came out nice. makes me wanna paint mine now. but i havent done it because i like to keep things stock. if anything i'd have to try the flat black but bleh, im lazy lol. once again, good job

Are you gonna do the middle and back ones? I like the way it turned out looks nice. I want to buy some of that 3m carbon fiber wrap for my interior.

Yep, I plan on doing the B and C pillars eventually also.
