2 problems...

1. My car makes a really strange noise whenever I start the engine in the morning, cold engine (only if it RAINS the night before) The noise is really disturbing...it occurs for about 5-10 mins. I feel like I have a sh*tbox car when it makes that noise.

2. RPM goes up and down when I'm parked (RPM is jumping)....when I'm at a right light the engine goes at 500 rpm and under...the engine wants to fail....I have to put the gear shift in neutral so that I can give some gas to keep it alive. When I'm driving I feel like if the car is kicking when I press the gas or when I let go. This problem doesn't happen everyday.

help?

Well I'm not sure what would be causing your second problem...alt maybe.

But your first problem, the mysterious noise, I believe I know what you're talking about...here's a vid of the noise mine makes when she first starts up and the noise goes for about 5-10 min like yours so I think we may have the same issue, have a listen and see...if this is your noise then it's just the belt.

That audio sounds like something from "the Ring"

My belt just make that obnoxious squeal when they are cold. You know, the one that makes everyone instantly look over at you. Meanwhile your ducking your head in shame...

Is there any way to get rid of that squeel? Mine only does it when it is super cold and humid, like after it rains in the winter time. It's annoying as hell, but I've noticed if I let it sit at idle in weather like that it doesn;t make the noise.

Yea thats the sound it makes..

It can't be normal....How can I make it go away!!!

My 2nd problem....can it be the rotor? only 3 pistons working..?

Someone help! Where are all the P5 pro's?

A little more information would be helpful. How many miles? What have you already tried to figure out the problem?

Describe the sound a bit more. Is it metallic, belt squeal, fluttering, tapping, what? Does it go away when the engine warms up a bit?

I know the VTCS valves in the intake manifold make a funny sound when the car first starts and revs a little when the engine is cold. They make kinda like a fluttering sound because the valves go flapping around when engine kicks over. They become immobilized when the engine reaches operating temp so the sound goes away.

If it's a belt squeal and your miles are getting up there, then check the condition of the belts and replace if necessary. If they are fine then they probably just need to be retensioned.

Also, what rotor are you referring to? If you mean a distributor rotor, the FS motor doesn't have one. It uses a twin-coil distributor-less ignition.

2nd Problem, from the description, sounds like the EGR valve needs cleaning....Look into the how-to section for the details....Takes about 30 - 45 minutes and makes the idle smooth again....I cleaned mine at around 50K, with the same symptoms at red lights. Now it's smooth and clear again...May also want to change out spark plugs which can cause low combustion mis-firing...

Mine had the same problem and I just cleaned the throttle body and it fixed mine.

I too was concerned about this noise as it has always had it from day one...first thing I noticed at the dealership when he started it up...course the guy was like what noise? lol.

I got him to pop the hood and noticed it was the belt and told him I want the mechanic to have a look at the belt because it shouldn't sound like that..he said np, turned out the mechanic is a stupid asshat, needless to say I no longer take her there...only went there for warranty reasons anyways.... so I took it to my normal mechanic first chance I got and he agreed that it was the belt and said it just needed to be tightened, he tightened it and it was fine for about a month and then it started making the noise again. I called him up and he said not to worry, the belt is reasonably new from what he could tell and not cracked or anything so it will be fine...it's just gonna make that noise till she warms up..

Belts are just finicky that way so I wouldn't be too concerned with it unless it's worn or cracked badly...in which case replace.

bad idle can be the egr and or the iac valve (idle air control) it's right above the egr valve....a good cleaning of the carbon build up corrected my bad idle!
