Side Mirrors - Problems Reinstalling

Model/Year: CX-5 2024

I cracked one of my side mirrors the other day. Just the mirror. I brought it to the dealer. They initially said the entire mechanism needed to be replaced. When I mentioned that only the mirror needed to be replaced, they quoted $250 for the mirror plus $230/hour for the labor. They couldn't tell me how long it would take. I checked Mazaparts.com, and the mirror was selling for $100. I was actually able to find an aftermarket mirror for $30 on eBay. Fits perfectly. Why are some dealerships such crooks?

Alright. My issue is installing the new mirror. I watched a few YouTube videos, and all you have to do is push the mirror into 3 knobs that stick out. You have to push really hard, but I'm able to push the mirror into the center knob.

However, there are 2 white servos (Pin B in the picture below) that I also need to connect to. They control the mirror angle, but I can't snap the mirror to them. Whenever I put some pressure on them, these white servos get pushed down. I'll use the mirror controls inside the car to bring the white servos come out again, but whenever I put a decent amount of pressure on them, they snap back down.

Is there a trick to how snap the mirror back on?

(As I'm sure you know) the servos are there to adjust the angle of the mirror. So when you push them down, at some point they stop at the most extreme angle. You should still be able to push further on the mirror to click it in at these stop points.

Yep, they stop at the most extreme angle. I tried pushing down further, but it didn't seem to work. Maybe, I have to push harder. I'll try when I get home.

I read a post by someone who stated they customized a washer and 1/4'' tubing to hold the servos in place while pushing down, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

I'll definitely give it another try but just pushing it down later. I just don't want to go to the dealership and pay them 2 hours of labor when it could take me 5 minutes to do.

Thanks.

Sometimes you have to try something like this, or come up with your own. Scotch tape?
Usually I eventually figure something out, given enough time.

You could try putting a bit of grease on the pins before putting the mirror back on. I don't recall having any issues when I reinstalled the glass on my mirrors, but I think I did the lower pin first, then lined the other two up before pushing in.

For anyone following this thread, I was finally able to put my mirror back on. I don't know if it was due to the cold weather but I was able to put it back now.

1. Make sure that you put in the center knob first by pressing the middle of the mirror. It may feel like you're going to break it but you won't.

2. Then for the other 2 knobs, press hard slightly to the right or below the center knob. If it doesn't go in, you might want to use a blow dryer to slightly warm things up.
