Mazda Protege 5
Hi I'm new to this forum

i noticed that a few protege 5s have headlights with no black plastic covers on the inside. Is this because people have removed it or is it different on the 02/03 models.

If I understand your question, the Canadian version is black, the US version is silver.

oh thanks
is there any way to take it off, i see a lot of them here and it looks good.

I know atleast 30 people that would be happy to trade you a pair of US stockers for your canadian headlights in a heart beat....i would but i got the sedan headlights already

lol, if you really want to trade, dibs! (cause seriously that would be sweet)

oh i didnt know so many people want it haha
i didnt really wanna spend money on shipping and such
i thought it would be a fun winter project to try to remove the black

Your better off just trading someone is the US...A set of canadian P5 headlights are around 600 bucks, you give someone a very happy new year thats fo'sho

haha, if that is the only thing holding you back i'd gladly pay for the shipping costs!

You cant just "REMOVE"the black...If you want the chrome housing ones..you are gonna need to buy them..or trade for them.
If you remove the "Black" ...there will be nothing left inside the headlight.

I dont think these guys are seeing what you are saying...and I am not sure I am either.

But if you have Black(or Dark..they are not really black) housings...and want chrome..you need to swap.
If you have chrome and want black..you can swap or Take them apart and paint them yourself.

There is a How-To around here somewhere..do a search for it.

The black is not a cover; the actual part used is a different color, so to change the color, you will need to change the entire headlight housing.

This thread seems so backwards. Speaking as someone who blacked out their Chrome headlights, and has help many others do the same, I can honestly say you're the first person I know of who has wanted to go the other way on this one.

seriously... ^^^ agree with that. and i thought other model headlights didn't fit the p5? am i wrong?

A friend of mine has MSP headlights in his P5, and he never mentioned having to do anything too major to get them to work. I mean, electrical obv., but nothing custom to make them sit properly.

stupid question, what would you change electrically? thought it was the same layout with lights inside.

MSP lights or sedan lights do not have the High/Low lights seperate like the P5 ...You'll have to rewire for the single bulb Hi/Lo, or you can opt to not have high beams..
