Ordered PLX Kiwi Bluetooth

So PLX is getting ready to release a Bluetooth version of their Kiwi ODBII broadcaster. Discounted from $149 to $99 for pre-orders, due to be delivered by 9/1. (Note- skip the UPS default & choose USPS Priority for cheapest shipping option)

I already have a Dashhawk, but this unit has my curiosity piqued, since it can work with multiple apps from the Android Marketplace. (I rock a Moto Droid)

Not sure if it can display as many parameters as the DH, but the first app I purchased (for about $3- free if you don't mind ads) does do datalogging, multiple customizable gauges, etc. It's simply called "Torque." The other apps seemed to be lacking some of the refinement of Torque. I will probably try some of the other ad-supported free OBDII apps as well once I start toying with it.

I already use my Droid as a GPS navigator, since my Garmin got swiped, and have it mounted in a decent spot for viewing.

Maybe once I get the Kiwi unit, get it paired, and get the Torque software running, I'll do some video of the unit on the dash while I drive, just for grins.

Very cool, there is a similar app for the iPhone but it paired to a odbII wifi broadcaster that costs close to 300 bucks...

Keep us posted!

Edit: the app is Rev on the iPhone for those that are interested.

Also found out they now offer a PLX device to pair it to which costs 149.99. It still does broadcast over WIFI which bugs me and I hope they update the app for Bluetooth. When the car is sitting the wifi device still allows you to connect to it and it's an unsecured connection by default... So anyone could connect to your car of they wanted, not they would know what to do or if they could cause harm but still all it takes is one person.

Interesting. I'll be getting an iPad soon (yay birfday!) and am wondering if an OBD-II cable and scanner app are in the works.

300? It's always been 149 btw. It also has a switch to turn it off when not in use, probably just like the bluetooth one that will broadcast when left on since they are both powered by the OBD2 port. I personally prefer the wifi one as well, price issues aside, it allows me to actually use the phone bluetooth for calls while using the app for testing. Both are sweet though and are definite eye-candy to passengers when they see the phone gauges running wirelessly. Or you can output the gauges to your in-dash if you have one.

When the devtoasters were selling it through their own site the PLX version wasn't available and was close to 300 dollars to get the ones they were offering. This is almost a year and a half ago..

Kain you can download the iPhone version of Rev to work on your iPad when you get it.

I've wanted one of these for quite some time as I'm building up a carPC at the moment.

A review would be great!

Sorry to bring up an old thread...

yea also didnt want to hijack but which headunit is that? i didnt realize they came out with one in piano black??? when did this happen? O.o

keeping this alive a little longer. I noticed there are a few cheaper bluetooth odbII plugs on the market. does anyone have any experience with these? what warrants this one being so much more $$$? thx
