Oil Starvation--Need solutions

Zoom Zoom Boom X 3
It has pretty much been concluded now by three of us that the FS motor can suffer from oil starvation while cornering. All three of the N/A motors that I know of have let go while cornering very hard. I don't remember what happened to Natey's, but McHaggis and I both threw a rod bearing. Has Mchaggis stated in another thread, the Moroso baffled oil pan never went into production. We need an immediate solution for this and I suspect that now the interest in getting a viable fix will be considerably higher since we are now starting to see it as a major problem.

Things to consider getting:

#1 Moroso oil pan (currently not available)
#2 Toga high flow oil pump (look for the 626 FS motor because they don't list the Pro's)
#3 Toga rod bearings (also for 626 FS motor)
#4 Oil pressure gauge
#5 Oil cooler (probably not that important)
#6 Accusump (on the bottom until someone tries it)

Has any one talked to mazda yet about a potentially disasterous problem.

Guys, I really am sorry for what has happened to you all. It must suck to lose your car.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

I just got off the phone with Tony at AWR. The World Challenge Proteges are using a special deepsump oilpan from Sunbelt with extra baffling inside and they also have a dry sump system available, but that might be a little overkill for street use and it probably bumps me out of STS class. Tony said to call Sunbelt and ask for Jim Thompson.

Windage tray?
Know how to make one? I would be game for trying to fab one up for the stock pan, but I'm not real sure exactly how to draw it out...and oil isn't the kind a thing I want to goof up.

i had a nice long chat with mazda about this the other day, the reason they don't care about it is because driving like that voids your warranty..even if i had stripped my car down to stock and showed up..they would of said right out of the gate..burnt up a bearing? your driving too hard..voided warranty for racing..

Warranties are bulls***, maybe it's just a Mazda thing. They won't fix my clutch chatter. ******* Mazdas....once again, my Honda was on the STOCK clutch at 196,000 miles, 50,000 of which were boosted. Sigh....lesson learned, never buy a car for the warranty...

its s*** like Mazda not caring that pisses me off. they've got that whole, zoom-zoom marketing strategy that sells 'the thrill of driving' and the p5/protege in general is sold by dealerships using its cornering ability and fun-to-drive nature as a selling point. then they pull s*** like this. [legalese] of course its a good legal point that in using these points and tactics they are creating a level of expectancy which the car doesn't always deliver (apparently). [/legalese] its the same concept as overrating the RX-8 though with the rx-8 its easier to pin them down on what they've actually said to create the 'level of expectancy.' depends on if you guys want to raise hell about it, but let me know and I can throw out suggestions to make Mazda's PR and legal departments to get some overtime in.
hope this baffled oil pan/pump system works out, I don't autoX or anything but I do love the winding roads around my house, I should be getting whatever solution is worked out soon (dunno)

Deep sump? Dry sump? Deep pump? Dry hump? What's that all about?

Also, I was thinking...if all else fails...we can take a stock oil pan and put "dividers" in it, so less of the oil sloshes from side to side. Now granted, I'm totally pulling this out of my ass, but it could work. Key word: "could".

They get away with it because they can..It takes money to slam them down on this warranty work..its a brilliant set-up..over saturate the market with all the hype..then people have problems, they won't help you and blame you for it..the trick is the money it takes to pin them down for ripping people off on the warranty, you could of either A. bought a better car or B. fixed it already...this job takes somebody with LOTS of money and a raw bitter hatred of mazda..i'm too ******* lazy and i fit right in with the teeming masses of pissed off mazda owners.

IIRC, Natey's P5 also spun a rod bearing and snapped a rod when it came out of alignment with the cylinder. And guess what, he also likes to feel the Gs in corners.

Rod bearings don't fail much (if at all) unless ran dry.

This has got me thinking since my Miata also suffered a rod bearing and a broken rod.

Miatas have windage trays though. hm.

We'll see what Miataforum.net says.

did you let it load for a little while? it does have stuff on there. I thought it was blank at first but there is info on there. of course if you click on the link to the place that is 'upkeeping' the page, the url isn't found (bad times for RadBar, Inc I guess (evil)) :D
