Nocturnalspeed's Welcome & Build Thread

I understand what Revmoto is trying to say, the lack of aftermarket support gives limitations to the choice in quality parts. We need more support and being that the Speed was a niche platform to begin with and its numbers dwindling as is, the number of fabricators willing to throw out the change in hopes revenue is earned back on a shrinking platform much like our cars is small in number.

I say go for it, if there's a vendor who's willing to make some quality parts for us by all means DO IT... Although with all this talk, I say put your money where your mouth is.

Yes he is saying that, but he is also bashing a very good product. And by his choice of words, he obviously doesnt know what the hell he is talking about. His superficial judgement of the Steed got me worked up because I have experienced it first hand and know its a work of art AND PERFORMS. I believe in it so much that I asked Leen to partner up so we could develop more products together. Everything the guy kicks out is top notch and unique. The MAM is beautiful too and appearently kicks ass, but the b**** of it is not being able to buy one new with a lifetime warranty.

I know I said I would shut up, but the Steed deserves the credit here. If you run one and dont like it, then you have the right to speak on it. Otherwise....

The dude throws out the same lame opinions over on evolutionm forums, nothing useful.

ok well this aint my thread and sorry nocturnal but i gotta put my 2 cents in...
from what i read in the op title was this is a build thread...not a forum to talk s*** about someones choice of vehicle or how they spend their money...If this were my thread i would have put a stop to this a while back...i did the same in aj's and my thread its got out of of hand...all the thread jacking is a "WASTE" so guys just stop feeding the evo troll...

Revmoto we all understand what your trying to say but seriously take it somewhere else this is a Mazda forum and what nocturnal or anyone here on this forum chooses to do with their car is up to them...now if you would like to pay for said parts and fabrications that you feel are superior to our parts then by all means step up to the plate then you can come here and put your 2 cents in but until then please just stay off this forum because like its been said before its a MAZDA forum not an evo...

and in regards to that yeah we all know evo's rock no doubt about it but i can throw out a penny and hit 10 evos no problem but a msp ill be lucky if i hit one these cars are special since they are limited which is the same for aftermarket cars they werent designed to be speed demons just fun ass rides but if someone wants to spend all their money building their car the way they want who are you to come here and talk trash about our cars...IMHO id rather have an STI over an evo anyday

sorry nocturnal just had to get that out there so now BACK ON TOPIC whats next on the build

For the record, I wasn't bashing the Steedspeed manifold or its craftsmanship/function but rather commenting on a whole that we have very few choices when it comes to aftermarket mods for the car. So we have to just deal with what comes (once again not saying that the Steedspeed is bad).

It just sucks when you have a vendor like MAM who up and leaves, ripping people off in the process, or even a company that because of poor customer service and bad business/transactions is not even allowed to be mentioned on here. I myself have dealt with a certain company (not the aforementioned) who shall remain nameless that puts out far less than quality products so much so that I paid out of pocket to return the item and get my money back.

Was basically just trying to say that if he has all these notions about how he can "improve" and "innovate" our platform particularly in regards to a new manifold then prove it. Actions speak louder than words...

holy run on sentence Batman! J/k

But really, the folks here on 24/7 with msps and ms6/3s don't get the cars because they can make gobbs of power with few mods like evos and stis. We get our cars because of the exclusivity, the price for the performance, and all around fun of the car. IMO evos and stis are great cars, but you just can't compare apples to oranges.

I was just thinking of saying something about getting back on topic of my build, but I love car talk in all phases :) It's sometimes good to hear another car enthusiast opinion. Like I said before, I'm new to this whole thing. This is my first car I've modded and I started April of last year. With the help of my brother and others my MSP has made some drastic changes. Like others said, It's a damn fun car to drive....and mod :D There is something about it when you get behind the wheel. I've been in my buddies STI and it just feels weird. I feel lost... Once you own a Protege, the car and it's owner are one.

I strive to be best in everything I do. It's all a competition to me... Mazdaspeed Protege is a unique and limited car which means a s*** load to me. It's great to feel different, but even better when you can beat enthusiast with the same passion and love for there cars who don't expect it... and that right there is a great feeling. :)

UPDATE!

Ok, so back on topic...

Purchased the JayRacing Fuel Rail w/ Aeromotive FPR and Deatschwerks 1000cc Injectors last week. They have both been shipped today, so I'm hoping to receive them monday. My car is at my brothers house for the time being, since I through a check engine light due to one of the injectors coming loose from the fuel rail. This all happened after I installed the 505 intake manifold 2 weekend ago. Miguel (Mazdaspeed2003.5) & 2.0t03speed gave me some suggestions on how to fix the problem, but I'm to lazy and went ahead and bought something that will come fixed already (lol2). My brother and I will probably get started on installing the FUEL RAIL, INJECTORS and PUMP when he comes back from out of town this weekend.

After everything is hooked up and ready to go with no check engine light, JDMSAM will receive a phone call shortly after to get a dyno set up for us.

oh, I can't wait for that either :) this is a semi-finished product.

Whats wrong with just putting that 5 grand into a short block and turbocharging it? Not trying to be a hypocrite or anything, but I would save that 5 grand and start on a new platform. Leave your protege as your daily driver. I wish I had a DD myself :(

well buying a msp would just be a dream for now im just gonna do the minor stuff to mine and leave it as my dd/autox car and im gonna get an STI hopefully next year i thought of getting a evo X i like the way they look when done right so aggressive looking (insert all of you remarks here)..lol but i really am leaning toward an sti they are sick and sound awesome awd 300hp out the box add a few mods and im good to go...besides my wife would kill me if i spent that money on another mazda she dont really care for mine she thinks im wasting to much money on it as it is i tell her of the money you guys spend on yours and tell her shes lucky i dont do that...but really that money is going to our new home for dp and closing...but maybe in a few years when were settled and i can get it for much cheaper then ill get my msp...so till then i roll my 99 with pride

1000CC? holy hell lol what kinda power you hoping to put down?

Heads up on fire hose injectors: you will have a hard time controlling them. Idle will be a. b****! 800cc is hard even with standalone and idle controller! Our head design and batch firing means having fuel not atomized and sticking to port walls. If u plan on sequential, it will help but requires several items the p doesn't have. Brace yourself for the upcoming headaches. Do a brake specific fuel consumption for your application and you will see 600cc would be plenty good. With injector duty cycles, being under is equally bad as being over.

On a side note, I had no idea you were popping your cherry on this car. You would never know it by how nice its coming along. Great job!

Awesome! Im happy the Straight water neck worked out. Seeing your pics I might pick up one.

Listen to Brian he's right. I'm running RC650cc injectors at 300whp, and the idle control is dif to control with the integral big cams.
The haltech works fine, but my iac gets pissy though. Plus, i'm re-doing my throttle cable (braided) to be more flush and help the throttle tuning a lot!! Its kind of kinked right now. Plus i'm selling my Haltech, couple people pm'd me already, so for now ryan has dibs.
Not to thread jack, just wanted to share my experience so far with 650cc's. Plently of room for 400whp.

Keep up the awesome work man, this has to be my second fav spicy next to noah's...> nk2a. Oh btw, the mazdaspeed radiator cap doesn'y fit on my PWR radiator. I guess it only fits on stock radiators or.., honestly I have no clue...haha. Oh well.
