Speed3/09
Hello to all. I've been lurking around and trying to read up on the MS3 courtesy of this forum. Haven't been into the car scene for awhile since my MKIII supra back in college. That was a long time ago. Since then I've only owned pickups. I missed having a car and read up on the MS3 since I wanted a car that I could easily put my dog into and this car seemed like the best fit. Fun, handles well, quick and most importantly I find my 09 GT to be far better looking then the lasted WRX, etc.

Have had the car for a couple of months while I studied up via the forum on what to do and not to do. Thanks for all the info! Since Xmas has past I'll have to replenish my funds before I can start to make some tasteful mods or should I say take the car somewhere to get the work done. Can't say that I'm mechanically inclined. Anywhere in particular I could take the car to get some mods done near Miami or Fort Lauderdale? Turbo Timer, Intake, etc. I've read good things about Japtrix but can't say I want to drive to Riviera Beach.

Welcome to the forums. First off, kudos to you for doing the research before jumping in to mod heaven.

Second, talk about coincidences... I just bought (but have yet to to go retrieve) a MKIII Supra. Had one just after college, and it was my dream car. (My realistic dream car... you know, not counting exotics, etc.) Blew head gaskets left & right, even after a full engine rebuild by a race shop. So the new one is running a 1JZ-GTE engine to do away with the head gasket issue.

Still got my MS3, so it's going to be tough sometimes to decide which one to take when I go places.

Since you're looking for a turbo timer... do you leave the car in neutral when you park? I learned the old school method where you leave it in gear and apply the parking brake, every time, no matter the circumstances. Thus, a turbo timer would be kinda daft for me. I've just learned to use the slow cruise thru my neighborhood to let it cool down, and I take my time getting out when away from home, shutting the engine down at the very last second.

Not aware of the good shops in Miami/Ladeeda, but I'm sure you'll get some responses on that. And I can assure you that if you have some basic sockets or wrenches and a couple of screwdrivers, you can install an intake tourself. At least a short ram. My Cobb SRI came with detailed step-by-step instructions and pictures. I'd bet a 10 year old could do it in under an hour. Possibly a half hour.

A CAI might snake around to places that are difficult to reach, which could get frustrating if you're not a patient person.

Best of luck with the mods, and be sure to post about them in the MS3 section!

Hey. Well my MKIII had 180k on it when I unloaded it. Mostly stock expect for an HKS cat back, a boost controler and an intake. Really loved the car and it ran like clockwork despite the high milage. I was living in Jersey at the time that thing was a beast in anything over a 1/2 inch of snow. Would of been really a perfect ride for south Florida but at the time needed something better for the conditions of the north east.

As for the MS3, its a perfect car for me, the wife and my 15 year old shepard mix. As for the TT, god bless my wife for giving me an HKS type-1 TT for xmas. I'm like you and have the habit of putting the car in gear when parking but not too concerned for that down here in Miami where everything if super flat. The intake I'm leaning towards the Corksport SRI set up since it seem to have all the good stuff for a good price. That might not be a bad install but the TT is past my skill level.

Would like to find a good tuner shop in the area that is trustworthy (cabpatch)

japtrix is supposed to be a really good shop and a plus is the owner of the place his son owns a speed3 and they have experience tunning our cars. i plan on making the trip down there to get tuned possibly very soon.

Take your car to Mack at Emerald Performance. His shop is in the area of Powerline and Commercial. Phone 954-682-7281. He does custom fabrication on exhaust and if you want a FMIC set up.

Hey guys. Thanks for the info. Have to go up to WPB this weekend for some work stuff so I made an appointment on Sat w/ Japtrix to get the TT installed. The guy, John, seemed and asked what I wanted to do the car. I told him an intake and he said he wouldn't put the intake on w/out tuning the car? Hmmm. Seems like they may be trying to get some more money $$$$ out of me. I had planned to do the intake, w/ intake tube, myself and thought the cars computer would adjust itself for the new intake w/ any CEL's. Am I wrong?

well an intake could change the tune a bit but as long as you got a wideband to monitor if any changes have been made then you will be able to notice with afr's.. and maybe they are just trying to help you out??? lol who knows

Maybe they're just lookin out for me but we'll see. I get a better feel for them tomorrow when I visit their shop. See if I get the used car salesman vibe(screwy)

If they insist on a tune with just an intake, I think that's a little bit much. Nothing wrong with suggesting it, but making it mandatory... nah.
