ha... i finally got my car back yesterday.. the whistle sound made by my old turbo is gone.. that sound is sooo ******* annoying..
and i noticed a little differences of my new turbo(p.s i got flashed too)...
it seems like in 1 gear it revs alot faster than before, another words, it goes to redline alot faster than b4.. why? as for the flash, i still got some hesitation but most is gone, so happy...
and the sound of my turbo is a little bit different too.. before it used to make sound like something's dying but now it's like "pshhh"... the sound is so nice...

yeah just wanna share my story to yall!!

thanks,
joe

Joe,

the flash may have something to do with that.

Congrats on your new turbo... mine still makes that whistle noise, but I thought that was normal...

Mine sometimes lets a quick high pitched wistle(I know its not the normal sound of a turbo); it does this when it's spooling up fast, I wonder if that's what you had.

I didn't have my car with me but I was at Mazda and told the guy and he said that's the sound of a turbo; either he didn't know what he was talking about, or I didn't describe it good enough.

Yup...

People have said that it was an oil starvation issue with the turbo..... others claim it's a characteristic.

So are you saying I should get to Mazda as quick as possible?

No... I've been driving mine fine for 7500 miles.. no prob...

I drove another guys speed, his does the same thing.

Don't worry about it :D

so im guessing the new turbo you got was just a stock replacement correct? I didnt know because it wasnt clear.

mine makes this noise sometimes (not compressor noise like normal turbos make, a differnet noise in addition to this noise), i figure it's fine and if it blows up that's why i have a warranty

Mine makes a really loud screech like its a bad belt and the car is new. I have only 470 miles on it. I drove another speed before I decided on the color I got and it didnt make that noise, in fact the turbo sounded all together different. Should I worry?

This is my first turbo car and I know it's normal, that is if it's a high pitch pure whistling sound. I hear it on my at wot and it kicks in around 3500 -4000 rpm's when it's spooled up. Listen to and vidoes of supras, rx7's, and what not, they all make the sound too.. if it's something that doesn't sound natural, then get it checked out.

no need to worry, if there is a problem with the bearings the problem will get worse and worse, so when it does take it to the dealer and have them fix it for free.
if you're really worried, check the shaft for play. if there is more than just a tiny bit, take it to the dealer

mine howls deep into 2nd gear. I think its normal also. And if its wrong, then I hope it goes wrong now. Not a year or so from now when I have mods galore and its obvious to a dealer

Hey Joe, I went to Menlo Mazda on Saturday with my homie to get his new blue MSP. I was walking around the service area and i saw a black MSP and a turbo next to it. I talked to a service guy cuz i wanted to know what was going on with it. He said there was a guy from frisco who dropped it off because it was making whining noises at idle? Was this your MSP?

I know which noise you are describing... under hard acceleration.. it goes from the characteristic whistle.. to more like a scream. I don't think it's an issue, if it was, hell we'd all need new turbos.

And Mazda would have a bulliten on it.
