soon to be protege 5
Hi Im new here and looking at getting a protege 5. I've never owned a mazda or even a japanese car for that matter. What should I look at and what should I be careful of. Any good tips on what to do first. The one I'm looking at is the dark blue with 95,000 miles. I dont think the timing belt hase been done yet, but it was from florida, has new brakes, exhaust, and looks to be very well taken care of. If there is a thread about first time buyers, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks.
Mike

check for any leaks
test drive it of course at different speeds, idle, transmission etc.
check for rust. since you are in ny check carefully for rust (rear fenders, emblems on the back, edges on the hood) . if no rust, most likely it was repaired

check the doorlock actuators, they like to break and the motor mounts. most p5's with that many miles have torn motor mounts so you may be able to knock off a few bucks.

I also agree on checking the motor mounts and talk them down when you see they are broken. (common) Open the hatch and check in the gaps that are near your rear fenders (seems to be common leak spot)

I have the same problem with Mounts. Just tore my front one again.
I see them for like $36 but I want ones a little more durable... Any suggestions on front Mounts?

btw, I know there ones for like $120 but that's too much chinkle
