When I take off from a stop I can hear and feel a metal on metal sound and the car doesn't seem to want to go. It seems to be coming from under the right front of the car. At first the transmission seemed to slip before engaging and progressed to this new problem. Any ideas on what this might be? I have an appointment at my dealer first thing Monday morning.

yea when mine went out i could hear this metal on metal sound too, and the fastest the car would go was like 1mph, even if you rev it higher, youd still hear the engine working at higher rpms but the car just wouldnt go any faster than 1mph...till the clutch just gave out, then my car turned into paperweight

I took the car into my local dealer on Monday. They had no idea what the problem is. I called them back today and they think it is the limited slip differential. They told me that it might be 2 weeks before they get the parts if that is the problem. They didn't sound very sure of themselves. I think since they had the car for two days without calling me they needed to tell me something. Anyway, I am traveling this week so as I check in at night I will keep you posted.

The funny thing is the car drives great most of the time. If you are on the highway and you need to pass someone you can drop the hammer and it goes. The only time this problem shows up is when you are either at a dead stop and you want to take off hard or if you are going like 5-10mph waiting to turn and you gas it to cross traffic. It is not near as noticable when the car is already moving as it is from a dead stop.

Dealer finally decided that it is the limited slip differential. They have had my car for two weeks and don't know for certain when I will get it back. This really sucks!!!

Got the car back. The dealer had it for two weeks. I was not impressed. Now the car won't easily go into 2nd, 4th or reverse. The only Mazda mechanic the dealer has is on vacation and won't be back until March 15th. I have to wait 2 more weeks just to have them fix something that they broke. Can you believe this dealer has 18 Ford techs and 1 Mazda tech.

Yeah, but those Ford techs should be pretty good considering how much busier they are than the Mazda tech. :D
Good luck and let us know what happens.
