Ok, I know it's expensive, but approximately how much is it to do a complete color change? Say red to black....

Just wondering.

You'd be happier just buying a black P5 and transferring all your mods over to it. I've been involved in color changes before, and its a pain in the ass to do correctly.

a GOOD paint job: as little as maaco (dont even think about it)$200

or upto $1500 for a good job

I've read that most of the cost is in labor for prepping the car. You could DIY the stripping, sanding, and primer layers, then have a shop do the final paint and clear coats. but that's a big p.i.t.a if you don't know how to do it.

Well, if you want a correct color change, everything comes out...seats, panels, motor, etc and the whole body gets sanded/painted....with a same color repaint, I know it doesn't cost as much as a color change, but I don't know how in depth they go.

this has been on my mind also...i never really considered it as a possibility for me, but i've always thought a spicy orange p5 would be cool.

What about sticking with the same color? Would the cost still be the same?

not at all. because if you do the full color change correctly that would involve taking out the motor and repainting under the hood, the door sills, underside of trunk, etc etc etc, all of which you most likely wouldnt need to do when staying the same. unless youre restoring some really old car anyhow. for example a 2003 isnt likely going to need the engine bay repainted.

there is someone here with one, but the paint quality sucks ass. he gets all pissy and defensive but once you open the hood its pure nasty ness. its like the outside is all spicy but the inside of the engine bay is still laser blue IIRC, whcih shows that the job was done half ass to save money. if you arent going to do it right, dont do it at all imo. especially with painting.

agreed!!!

yeah, i never considered it a possibilty because i knew it would be way too expensive to get the job done right. plus i'm sure i would be out of a car for quite a while. plus, i love my yellow car :)

Alright, that makes sense...Because I was washing and waxing my car the other day and realized their were countless scratches and little chips all over the place so I was curious how much it would cost to be repainted. So how much do you think a respray of the same color plus a clear coat or two would run me?

It would probably cost about $1500 or so. most of the cost accrued in a paint job is all the prep work, not the materials so much.
