new in dash for the 3's

Yeah, alibaba. Well, it's a yellow flag for me right now. I'm definately not going through western union. Going through paypal means I can use my Amex and they'll definately help me out if I end up getting scammed.

I'm definately proceeding with caution, but from all my dealings with the individuals, I don't see a reason I should be worried if I use paypal and my credit card.

Here is some more information on the unit that I have heard the least about:

Yeah, I don't think I've heard too much of this one. I think dabears2k may have said something...but I don't quite trust his input. He said that crazyitalian had tried the other CA unit and said it was a POS, when in fact it was a completely different unit that crazyitalian had tested.

I installed my CarAdvanced unit this evening. Took about 2.5 hours total, wasn't bad at all, pretty easy install. On a scale of 1-10 it's probably a 3 for installation difficulty. No wires to splice, everything just plugs in. Just have to run wires for the navigation and microphone. The only disassembly required is the console.

Fit and finish is excellent, seems to be high quality. No problems at all with my Bose system, and in fact it seems to have bass now. Not sure how that happened, but the system is a lot louder.... not any more clear, but definitely louder.

Interface is top notch, very easy to navigate around. The only thing I don't like is the iPod interface. Unless I haven't figured it out yet, you can only scroll through either the artist or album, then scroll through the songs that fit in that category. This makes navigating and finding the songs you want very cumbersome and slow. I will probably just switch out to the A/V input and use the iPod A/V outputs and use the iPod itself to play the songs (that way I can even do video off the iPod and hook up other devices).

DVDs work great. The sound effect feature is a bit overdone, a lot of echoing, so I just leave it off. Otherwise the sound and image quality on DVDs is excellent.

Bluetooth works good. Syncs up with my Razor V3XX without any problems. Sound mutes when placing or receiving calls.

Radio... well it's a radio. I like being able to click the station I want to listen to.

GPS works well. I've only messed around with the Route 66 so far, but it has all the basics. I was planning on switching to Igo8 or TomTom, but I am not in a rush since this works fine how it is. Finds addresses well and has a good list of POIs. Easy to save custom POIs, switch routes, zoom around the map and navigate. Radio mutes when the lady talks to you.

Overall I am very pleased with this unit. It's an all-in-one clean package that does what it says and does it well. I haven't tried any of the add-on options, but I'd like to hook up another screen for the back seat and maybe figure out if I can get the TV function working.

If anyone has any specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.

I assume you are talking about the MZ3D from CA?

So no splicing was needed to install with the Bose system? I had thought there was some special modification needed that would require some splicing. Were any special steps required to install with Bose? Thanks.

Yes, it's the MZ3D "orange/red striped" unit from Car Advanced. No splicing at all, everything was plug & play. After I purchased the unit I sent them an email (as it says to do on their web site) saying I needed the Bose adapter. The silly little Bose "subwoofer" under the passenger seat actually has some volume to it now and you can feel it.

The only wires I had to run were for the GPS antenna, microphone and the USB and iPod connectors to the ashtray. Very simple. I just put the GPS antenna on the drivers side of my dash in the corner. The wire fits right between the pillar and dash without showing any wires and the antenna is heavy enough to sit there and stay in place without needing to use the adhesive backing.

pics of the install would have been awesome. how much did the system cost, including shipping

Those installation instructions pretty much sum it up. You only have to run the GPS receiver and iPod/USB cables down to the ashtray (or wherever you want them).

It cost $1050 + $25 shipping. I ordered it late on Sunday night and it got here on Wednesday.

It's been working great and I'm enjoying it. The only thing I don't like is the iPod interface, so I'm going to switch that with the A/V cables and connect it that way. Then I'll be able to hook up a TV Tuner, Zune or anything else I'd like.

Rob,
Any word on your order? I read something the other day that said that if anybody online asks for Western Union, stay away from them. Sure hope you dont get taken.

No new status...

I'm waiting for their paypal to become available again. Of course, I'm a little concerned because they've offered me a drastically lower price, which seems suspicious... I might actually try calling China and talking to them too...

I'm hoping that with paypal, and my Amex, if I decide to buy from them, I can fight any fraud through my credit card company.

Whats the drastically lower price? Id take it if its really good with paypal and amex without a thought :), perhaps tell him you want 2 (1 for me? (kiss))

Any updates on any of this? I'd like to see some installs on some 07's with Silver dashes. The DSS kind of interests me more for the color and functionality of the trip computer (all accuracy issues aside, I still like having it), but I like the CA one more for having all the wires coming off the back. I'd much rather have a 200 gig hard drive in the glove box to store my music collection than have the mess of wires I have for my ipod's and iphone. Drives me up a ****** wall.

I read somewhere that CarAdvanced "may" be involved in a legal battle for using copyrighted content on their site without permission. Basically, a couple businesses were at the point of requesting an injunction to stop the sale of their units.

I am looking for the actual thread, but I believe the member may have deleted it for legal purposes. For now, I would be slightly wary of purchasing from this company unless you have a way to dispute your purchase later down the line (i.e. credit card).

Trust me, I would not post this based on hear-say. This was a very legitimate concern. If I find more I will update/edit this post.

no it wasn't. It was posting by Dabears2K which was removed by MODS. There are lots of people now using their products perfectly fine, me being one of them.
