New 2017 CX-5 Revealed

No, they are legally obliged to use winter tires so you'll see lots of those Japanese CX-5s with aftermarket wheels.

Those are snow tires, but there is no legal obligation to have winter tires in Japan. There's some roads that will ban you from driving if you don't have chains or snow tires, but you don't have to own either.

Is it possible to list your Bose speaker configuration for us? We saw 11-speaker setup for Bose in Japan, but we get 10 speakers. Which one is missing that's our question ⋯ (uhm)

When it gets delivered I can...

LOL What an odd video. OK, the exterior has grown on me. I like it. One thing I do still hate though...that dumb looking, IMO, ipad style infotainment. I just don't like it. As someone else said if it rose out of the dash, that would be a eat feature. I saw in a Mazda3 hatch at the dealer when I bought mine. I didn't like it in that car either. I guess this is the way forward, but yea. Not a fan. Wouldn't keep me from buying one though.

The lack of commentary - or noise of any kind for that matter - is a bit unnerving, haha. Once thing I wonder is why there are SO MANY shots of the exterior. Seriously. I spend time inside my car, and would appreciate more details of what I'll see while driving (along with what my passengers see - including the back seat). The press release definitely stated that rear vents and USB ports are now available in the 2017, but not a single video or photo I've see of the 2017 models have shown this. It's brand new... why not??

Think its the subwoofer. Maybe the japanese spec cars come with spare tire and ours do not? The sub is placed in the centre of the spare tire I think.
No spare in our 2017.
Yeah from the video Bose system in JDM CX-5 has a sub-woofer without the spare tire. CX-3 and new CX-9 for US market come with both sub-woofer and mini spare tire. I hope new CX-5 doesn't lose the spare with Bose system if we indeed have a sub-woofer. (nervous)

I still don't care for the external design. Really, I think that is my only complaint. I really hate the side profile being a straight parallel line to the ground, instead of the sort of "swoop" on the pre-2017's. The front grill seems kinda "meh" to me, but not a big deal.

As for the iPad style infotainment system, yeah I agree with you on that. I like a clean, level dashboard, and it seems odd to have a tablet touchscreen like that protruding out the top of the dash. Seems kind of obtrusive to me as a design concept, but I also haven't seen it in person, and it's definitely not a deal breaker.

Someone commented on the cd/DVD player missing.

It's quite entertaining to read all the CR-V vs CX-5 on different threads during the last few days :-) Although the two cars are direct competitors of the same segment, I think they're somewhat apple to orange as they have different target audiences.

If you can't feel and appreciate the design beauty and the fun in driving a Mazda, or if you can't even tell the different "feels" between the two cars, the CR-V is probably a better choice. And that's OK, as Mazda has stated repeatedly that they don't target everyone:

So yes, in some way the proud CX-5 owners are acting like fanboys defending something that the practical users can't reason with, but that something (driving matters) is the core of Mazda, and thus making it a higher priority in picking a car.

I agree with this.

To me a CX-5 is practical in every way I want it to, while also being fun to drive.

When I took the CR-V out for a test drive, I could not get back to the dealer fast enough, I hated it so much. It was not fun to drive. Practical? Yeah. Fun? Hell no.

Mazda understood this. Not everyone wanting an AWD small SUV is a soccer mom, and Mazda gave me the CUV that was absolutely perfect.

I captured it from the above video. Seems like lots of contradictory info out there.

I'll tell you in a couple months. I plan on getting this when my sales rep gets their VINs assigned.

Ah, gotcha. That video was taken in Europe (Switzerland or Germany... couldn't tell which, but the display was in German), so might be different from the US market details. Look forward to what your sales rep says.

I have to purchase it sight unseen and then they ship it to me in Germany [emoji629]

This will be the second one they ship.

The interior looks tactile, minimalist, sharp, and functional. Very driver centric. Gets the thumbs up from me.

The Mazda Japan website lists a 10 speaker system. Looks like the subs there and I would assume a center dash speaker as well.

Thanks for the link! I swear I saw a Mazda internal document with JDM CX-5 specs posted by another member here that says Bose has 11 speakers. Looks like now Bose system in new CX-5 indeed has 10 speakers even in JDM version! I guess that could be another misprint, like those incorrect MSRP prices on optional Touring packages stated in another document for CX-5 price release.

I can read some Japanese, but here are the content of the Mazda Japan website about new CX-5 Bose system translated by Google. Our Bose should have the same speaker setup as JDM Bose with two 1" (25 mm) tweeters at A-pillars, two 6" (165 mm) mid-range speakers on front doors, two 5" (130 mm) mid-range speakers on rear doors. Finally a sub-woofer with 5" (130 mm) speaker is located in spare tire area. Since it says two front tweeters and two mid-range door speakers form a 2-way configuration front speaker setup, we definitely lost two corner 3" mid-range speakers but the center dash 3" mid-range speakers stays for surround sound effect. The 3" speaker with red border shown in the picture is the center dash speaker, the other two 3" speakers are rear fill-in for surround sound. Personally I'd prefer no Centerpoint 2 Surround Sound System like CX-3's since we don't watch movies while driving anyway! :) And I hope we still have mini spare tire with Bose system!

Enjoy the high-quality comfort of the new CX-5 with five senses.
I thought about functions and equipment that can feel usability without being caught by common sense.

Developed ideal "Mazda sound" jointly with Bose

In Mazda, "Clarity: Clear sound without distortion" "Imaging: accurately reproducing all the sounds of music from bass to treble" "Power: sound that feels heavy bass energy" is called "Bose Mazda sound "value and definition. Since this idea overlaps with the idea pursued by Bose, we collaborated with Bose from the early stages of vehicle development and realized an ideal sound system and 10 speakers for the new CX-5.

Bose sound system (AUDIOPILOT (TM) 2 + Centerpoint 2) +10 speaker
functionality_img02_1612.ts.1612150201271330.jpg

A silk dome adopted 25 mm tweeter in the front pillar to reproduce a smooth and clear high tone. This 2-way configuration with tweeter, 165 mm speaker of the front door to properly localize vocals and each instrument. A 130 mm woofer built-in base box under the luggage room floor that produces superb heavy bass.
And rear door 130mm speaker. These 10 speakers realized a balanced, clear, realistic sound that sounds like coming from any stage anywhere on the stage. We also have a Surround System Centerpoint 2 function that reproduces with a stereoscopic sound image even with a stereo sound source, and a running noise compensation system AUDIOPILOT (TM) 2.

* Built-in woofer built-in base box of Bose sound system is installed under the trunk board.
