I've never been a fan of the CRV. However, I do think the new CRV is the best looking one they've made. Compared to all previous CRV, it looks great, but compared to the 2016 or 2017 CX-5 it's places second by a wide margin. Just my opinion.

Agree, Ricsta... I just checked out the newest 2017 one to make sure I hadn't missed something. Nope. Still don't like it. I despise the front end. It looks out of place to me. Too short or scrunched or something.
Does the CX-5 Sport or Touring have the "Walk away and lock" feature or is that just the GT?

I think you will be disappointed. I read that the AWD CX-5 will get 29mpg highway. I'm scouring the net to see where I read that.
Perhaps something to do with the revised EPA testing?

Still love my "old" '15 but I like the '17 and updates. Personally... I'll be more interested if they add an HCCI engine to the '18 or '19.
EDIT: Hopefully any MPG efficiency Mazda makes with the future AWD models isn't at the cost of impairing the current systems capabilities and performance.

New ball-bearing on rear differential for less friction, better efficiency and greater strength shouldn't impair current AWD system's capabilities and performance.
Yeah.. I'm not so sure it would simply be that. There is a 2% pre-load on the rear at all times and not sure how common this is on other makes. If others do this then certainly areas to improve on for MPG. I'd hate to see them ruin system for minor MPG improvement. Acura RDX as an example had a better AWD system on their first gen than current shipping model.

Our 2012 Impreza and Outback lightly-load the rear wheels to improve fuel economy. These CVT cars are NOT full-time 50:50 power split. They both have electronically controlled clutches, just like the CX-5. I could NOT power-slide the Imp, but I can with the CX-5. I'm also getting *better* short-trip MPG in cold weather on my 500 miles CX-5, than I was on my 70,000 mile Imp (with Xice 3's on both). I'm thrilled.
Interesting tidbit is most people don't know Subaru offers several versions of their "symetrical AWD". Subaru has 4 different versions of their AWD system on the market, but are all marketed under the "symetrical AWD" banner.

Yup, the old manual Subaru's used a simple viscous coupling system with a 50/50 split to start with power transferred to each wheel based upon slippage. The only thing you had to worry about is the actual fluid, which required some maintenance and tire pressure.
I don't thing any Subaru uses this system anymore - rather various levels of their electronic system with various system.
What's reason for 'not touching' the Gray or Red paint color?
I heard some paint shops had a tough time color matching MAzda's soul red.
100% the only thing the kept me from buying my cx-5 in deep crystal blue - no black interior available...why they insist on that god awful parchment as the only option i'll never understand, especially when they offer that color combo on every other vehicle in their line...then again you can get Sirius on lower models than the GT on those too, so much fuckery with the CX-5 options (gah)

Check out this article of Mazda's new version of Soul Red.....looks like it would be a pain in the tuckus too match that paint without being at the factory!

not sure about other areas but here in NY you have the right to choose your repair shop in the event of an accident/insurance claim - if it were me I'd take it straight to the dealer & have them do the repairs to avoid any paint frustrations
Pretty sure dealerships outsource auto-body work. Some larger dealerships have an in house body shop but is really a 3rd party shop leasing space on the dealership's property. I mean mechanics are an entirely different trade than auto-body pros.

Yes, you can nominate (sometimes with a fight), your own bodyshop here too. That would also assure the use of genuine parts at the dealer workshop but it often ensures a loony working on it. They just see it as a “unit” and not a valued possession of the customer. Catch 22.
