Need help with intakes and other mods

If you install a new aftermarket Downpipe or Catback (other than the Mazdaspeed Accessory version from Mazda site) count on voiding the warranty. I have talked to the Irvine Cali Mazda Tech support folks and they say YES warranty will be voided.

On the other hand if yo DADDY owns the local Mazda dealership all bets are off.....................(peep)

Seriously tho, my local dealership guys are very upset with me now and have let me know in no uncertain terms that I am the 'DEVIL INCARNATE' for even thinking about upgrading anything. They won't cover anything now, so they say. We'll see...................

I have never been deny'd warrenty work on my msp even when it was fully modded. If you know what your talking about and are pushy as ****, they will cover your car regardless. Law requires that they do unless the modification directly caused the problem.

If we are worried about the warranty, which this car seems to need (Driveline). Can someone help me find all the ins and outs of the air box mod. I have read to remove the restrictive bottom part???
Can anyone help me find some instructions on doing the airbox MOD???
I want to do it before ordering a CAI...
Thanks, I am hoping for a skoda-like instruction for the air box mod and the variations with or involving the tubes or hoses I read about somewhere..One thread claimed that this mod has very similar gains to the best CAI's out there (CPE, FUIJUTA) ???
pLEASE Advise-
Thank you !!

I barely noticed any difference from the airbox mod (resonator delete + gutting the airbox). Seems like you can occassionally hear the stock BOV but hardly noticeable (especially compared to some of the vids I've seen of MS6's with CAI's installed, which sound like a steam train coming through).

From what I've read, the airbox mod is simply the logical intermediate step toward getting your CAI because you have to deinstall the resonator anyway(PITA, BTW).

When I was researching CAI's it seemed that CPE's offered the best gains but the consensus was, for everyday driving, the difference would be hardly noticeable between the $329 CPE vs the $260 AEM vs the even cheaper Fujita (FYI...you can get the Fujita for about $200 now).

Seemed to me that people made their choices based on brand preference, workmanship and cost. Here's a bottomline summary of what I got from all the numerous CAI discussions:
1. Most everyone agreed that CPE offered best quality
2. Some people preferred Mazdaspeed by AEM thinking dealers would be more accepting of Mazda product (although there's plenty of discussion saying it doesn't matter)
3. Fujita's are the cheapest ($210 new on eBay but there is a group buy where they're going to sell for $198-$205 depending on # of orders: http://forum.***************/index.php?showtopic=62876 )

I decided to get the Fujita because I care more about the function (comparable HP gains) rather than form (brand or appearance) plus I'm a cheap skate (I've got plenty of things I spend that extra $60-$130 on).

Have more people got on that group buy??
I think I'm in too.
I wanted to make sure the fujita was just as good and hopefully comes with good instructions..
I'll check that group buy out.(RTM)

There's 11 signed up (which would get us to the $198 price) of which 4 have submitted payment (myself included). We only need one more payer (min 5 needed) to avoid the GB being canceled (hint, hint).

Good luck on your decision and there's been plenty of discussion to help with your decisionmaking. IMO, the good news is that you can't go wrong with any of the CAI's out there. There's plenty of all three types on the road and none seem to be causing any CEL's.
