My Hypertech Impressions

Yes, we can. We should be able to offer any additional features on the release of the 2010 tuning, and roll them into an update for the older cars.

We probably won't ever offer a user adjustment for boost limits, unless you wanted to lower them. Raising the boost levels any higher than what we have already tuned for are just not safe for the factory turbo. We market and sell our Sport programmers as a safe tune, so adding an option to raise the boost would increase the chance for someone inadvertantly damaging their engine.

Maybe someday we will be able to offer a race programmer with those types of features...

Chris

Thanks for the response. Actually I was looking to lower the boost levels since I want my engine to last forever :) . But like everyone else is saying, idle speed and fan control would be just fine . (headbang)

Thanks again !

I received the Hypertech yesterday and successfully installed it on the Speed3. Took a couple of updates, once before hooking to the car and one after hooking up, but it flashed just fine. Removed the 0-60 restriction, and tuned for the Mazdaspeed CAI. Didn't increase the RPM range yet, since I haven't logged anything and want to see what's going on before redlining.

What's amazing is the difference in 1st and 2nd gear, just feels much more responsive and the boost hits earlier. The other gears feel more responsive as well, although not quite as much as the 1st and 2nd, but with more top end. Puts a smile on your face.

No logs yet, will see what boost is doing as well as knock, AFR, fuel pressure.

Quick question: the K04s in my Audi S4 were tuned to spike at 22, and hold right near 20. Since this is also a K04 turbo, I wonder why the tunes are more conservative...?

I got mine cheaper than $350, you'll have to PM me if you want more info, I don't want to upset the sponsors by naming names...

Why not used??? NOt like you actualy use it plug and play then put it back in its box. (attn)

Glad to see another guy with this and HAPPY!!

I thought about selling mine before but I have since changed my mind..+2 on buying a used one if you find a good deal! theres no wear and tear on it.

+1 on being able to get it cheaper than $350 U.S.

I've now installed and been playing with it a bit for about a week. As previously stated by just about everybody, this is a very quick and easy install. And easy to flash back to stock.

I had a self-created issue I will now disclose, since I have solved it. I was getting some "load cut" after install. I thought it was because I was running a catless dp/rp and might have been seeing a couple pounds more boost than Hypertech's slightly increased load tables were comfortable with. Not so. Wasn't even load cut.

Turns out that the gap on my plugs (originally set at .030) after about 25,000 miles had opened up to between .035 and .038 depending on which plug I checked. I regapped them to .028 and this thing just flies now. Big smile on my face.

The big gap was allowing the high boost to blow out the spark at maximum boost at around 4,200 rpm and then the spark would kick back in when boost went down. This was acting just like load cut, but it was not. Just my plugs.

I have yet to do stop watch timing or accelerometer data logging (G-Tech Pro RR) on the new tune now that plugs are gapped correctly.

More to come, perhaps in a new thread when I get some objective data. It's 100 degrees F. here now. Not the best conditions.

And yes, for those who are interested, the tune works just fine with a catless dp/rp. I know Hypertech cannot promote that concept for legal reasons. But I thought that those of us who have gone the catless route and are wondering if it will work, the answer is YES.

And another emphatic YES to elimination of boost spike. I had been spiking to 20-21 psi with quick settle back to 17-18 psi since going with the catless dp/rp. I believe Darth suggested that this tune was taming that spike. He's right. Spike gone.

With the combo of the exhaust mods and the tune, I'm seeing 18-19 psi boost under maximum load with a nice small taper to 17 psi which holds to my normal shift point of 5,500-5,800 rpm. And as everyone has noted, there is now headroom above 6,000 rpm with a gradual boost taper to keep things safe.

Another satisfied customer.(drive2)

I had the car at the dealer for some routine service, with the HT tune removed, of course. My point is,I didn't realize how much of a difference there is between the stock tune and the HT tune. The stock tune feels like weak sauce, compared to the HT tune.

Funny my car is there now. Removed the HT like 10 ft from them, An wont drive far with out it installed.. LOL I will be pulling over like a half a mile away and reinstalling it.. :)..

Your dealer is o.k. with the catless dp/rp, the SRI and the fmic? I need to find one of those! Or did you just remove the tune so their diagnostic equipment would link up with the OBD2 port without thinking something is wrong with the ECU?

Yea they where cool it them, All tho they said there heard the noise I was talking about (TOB Rattle) But wasnt loud enough for them to fix :/.. WTF I'm sorry WHAT..

Anybody having better luck with the Cobb tune? I remember about a month ago people we having issues. I ran it for a few days and the car didn't feel very strong. I have been using the Corksport tune for a while now and AFR and boost are looking good, car runs strong. (I have a Cobb into a RPMC inlet).

Beware of using alternate MAF values, which is what you're doing, without a way to monitor your fuel trims. Something that "feels" a bit better may not actually be faster. MAF values are by far the most critical engine parameter on a new car, as the ECU never goes deaf to it and all further adjustment is based off it. I doubt your creating a serious issue, with your low state of mods but, it bears mentioning.

I installed it yesterday and it works great.

Plus one for this I was seeing knock on the DYNO and fuel trims where all wacky.. (enguard)

Gonna go get one today from a retail store. Yea, costs more than online, but long story short I bargained them down and got some reembursment money from my parents, so all I will be paying is $280

So this weekend I've got a lot planned to include loading the tune. Gonna do some seafoam, change oil, rotate tires and I may clean tthe intercooler and MAF sensor

So if I clean the MAF I will be unplugging the battery first. I guess I should load the tune after this and I should be okay? Reason I ask is because I have the mscai, and everytime I unplug the battery I can tell the ecu burps a little bit to get parameters up to par. Or maybe if I load the tune first the ecu will have an easier time after unplugging the battery
