msp vs. spec V 04'

Has anyone raced a 2004 nissan spec V . I've heard that they are pretty quick and my orom mate just got one, but we haven't been able to race yet b/c its still in break-in stage. Just curios what i'm up against. thanks for all your info. BTW i'm all stock. (scratch)

Some dude in a Silver Spec (02) was tryin to mess with me next friday.. flicking his lights and being gay.

I just let him pass.... how are you suppose to race in bumper to bumper traffic? I had about 1 car lenght in front of me the whole time, and he had that and maybe a little more.

G A Y ! :D

BTW, Boost is right, stock for stock it's a driver's race

I've driven both and had a hard time deciding between the MSP and the Spec V. A drag race or even an autocross type would be very close given equal drivers. The suspension in the MSP is a little more user friendly and secure feeling, but the Spec V will put up very fast times in a slalom and high skidpad numbers even though its a little less predictable at the limit. It likes to lift a rear tire in hard cornering. GTI's also do this. Its a little unsettling, but the Spec hangs on.

Both cars put out some pretty bad torque steer, the Spec V maybe a hair worse. The Spec V produces more low RPM torque. Both have LSD's and the same size rubber.

The Spec V costs a little less in base trim (no ABS) and is also available with options like cruise, sunroof and a nice Brembo brake package that the MSP does not offer.

The MSP looks nicer (most folks think) and has a better interior (most folks think). The N/A engine on the Spec V should prove to be more reliable over the long term as its 2.4 litres doesn't work as hard to put out what the MSP's 2.0 does, especially with the added heat and stress of the turbo bolted onto it.

Its a toss up. In the end, I went with the looks and extra refinement of the MSP. I don't regret not getting the Spec V.

You mean 2.5L in the SE-R? I dont think its a 2.4, but i may be wrong.
Also i read in the sentra forums the new SE-R engines have a few problems and like to blow up every so often, but i may be wrong about this too.

lil quick on the hazards werent ya?!?!? (uhm)
maybe he accidently hit the hazzards when shifting into 2nd(sarcasm). because thats when it seems like they go on...didnt acctualy look like he was ahead in the video either =)

dont race it thru turns, the spec-v might tip over!
when i was working one of the corners at an autocross, i noticed on hard turns, the rear wheel on the inside of the turn comes several inches off the ground

That is kinda funny this came up when it did b.c I had a salesmen in a red 04 spec v trying to race me today. He thought he was all cool and everything reving and then launching in traffic and then slamming on his brakes only to do it over and over again for about 4 miles. I would say that it is a drivers race b,c a couple of my friends have them and it was really close.

oh yeah ,the rear tire does lift and it is b.c of the rear beam. I had a b15 and i have video's of it doing that at an autocross. kinda cool i guess but the coilovers helped that problem a lot and it was better

A little off topic but I used to own an 03 Spec V and I thought that it was a great little car and the only thing wrong with it was the rear end of the car, I thought it was fugly, and once Nissan fixed that, it would be a nice looking car. Go figure they screw around with the nicest feature of the car (the R34 front bumpers, front end) and leave the crappy (rear end) feature in place.

Also, there is an Spicy Orange MSP in my neigbourhood, I tell ya, everytime I saw it I thought I should've gotten that instead.

Oh well in the end it worked out fine, I will be owning an MSP soon.
