Miata R-package Front Lip

Finally got it from the parts dept. at work yesterday...came out to $143.75! So, it was unusually slow at work and I decided to attempt to install it.

What a pain! Anyone who is going to do this, you should buy 2 new bumper braces(the metal braces that hold the lower rear sides of the bumper in place) or you will be screwed. As you have to remove the bolt that goes to the brace, it'll be rusted to hell. The first one I put the rachet on broke right off. The other one I sprayed with PB Blaster, then carefully added torque, and it broke right off too. So I had to remove the braces completely, and since the bolt goes into a welded nut on the braces, there's nothing you can do with it.

Becides that, it's also a pain to hold it up and align it by yourself...I was using a lift in the shop and it still sucked...I ended up putting one of the 6 C clips on it and the bumper to hold it up, but the clips have little metal spikes that dig into both parts, making re-alignment difficult.

Anyway, I held both sides up using screws through the pre-existing holes that the braces go to, then got on all of the C clips. Not having a drill bit, I used a screw to drill out the rust and crap from those 2 side holes, then used a bolt, 2 washers, and a nut, on each side. I pulled the airdam mounts sorta tight up to the splash shield, then used the supplied self tapping screws in them. Then I got 6 self tapping screws and just went and screwed through the holes in the airdam to the bumper. You're supposed to drill then use the supplies bolts/nuts, but again no drill bit so I made the project my own. :)

Lastly I screwed in the ends to the bumper.

It's on strong...maybe someday I'll do it the right way. I need to find 2 bumper braces though.

Hah, well, just for me and other employees it would seem. I know Trussville Mazda sells em for $150, don't know about shipping. Of course it comes with everything to install it too, a big box that you can use to ship other parts, and a nice long plastic bag.

took me like 1/2 hour to do mine laying on my back in the driveway... huh.. still works great. was is much more stable without wind going under car..

Is your car dropped and are those '99-00 miats wheels ? I love the look of it.

No, not dropped, but yes, those are '99 LS 15" wheels. They were free with the ES100s on em, but 3 of the 4 wheels are warped on the inside rim...not like it hit something but like it's just oblong at a point. Creates vibration at 35mph and 65mph even ballanced the best we could, but it's not a big deal to me, after all they were free anyway.

Now then it might look lowered because those are 195/50 tires which have a smaller circumference than the stock 185/60 14", so the car sits a tad lower.

I think I read on Miata.net that you can get it for ~70 bucks through Mazda Racing if you show SCCA slips for 2 races in a current year.

I've gotten continuously f'd over with work and travelling that I haven't been able to autocross my Miata once in the last few months... and I'll be out of town for next weekend's autocross too. :( I want one bad. Besides a rollbar this is all the only (funtionally) cosmetic changes I intend to make to mine. I hear it supposedly does provide noticable downforce at highway speeds.
