MI Fun Drive II-'06, July 15, 2006

brakes shipped out today, will arrive on the 13th. Anyone wanna help me get my springs on in the mean time?

Hey, I'll give you a hand with the springs. I haven't done springs before, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Give me a call if you want some help.

I haven't done springs before either, but I have the SM and I've talked to enough people who've done them and said that they're not that difficult. I think I'll get started with them tomorrow night after I get out of softball. Since I can't get started with the brakes till Thursday night at the earliest, if i get the springs out of the way, I can focus on other things in the meantime.

Feel free to give me a call before you get started on the springs and I'll come and help out. I should be free pretty much all evening.

Just keep in mind that you'll need to get an alignment after you change the springs. Otherwise, you'll chew up those shiny new shoes she's wearing.

Yeah I was plannin on it. Thanks for the heads up. Actually, how difficult are the springs on my car, how long should I expect to spend on changing them out?

I could probably do it in less then two hours, including a beer break.

Better give yourself the better part of a day. :D

You won't need a spring compressor for the rears but you might for the fronts.

Also, plan on installing new sway bar end links. You Protege guys are notorious for having seized nuts on them, so they'll probably have to be cut off.
If you're lucky enough to get them loose, be sure to put some anti-sneeze on them when they go back together.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been active on these boards, but I participated in the first drive in April. I had the silver ION RL (still stock (sleep) ). I'm signing up for this next one, too if you guys don't mind. My brother will be joining me and he'll have a camcorder. I'll make sure he doesn't get our license plates. See you guys then

**** Swaybar Endlinks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to say I told you so...

That's why I put anti-sneeze on everything that I take apart.

Yeah, I plan on that when i put it all back together. It took me about 10 cutoff wheels on the dremel and i finally got the rear endlinks off of the struts. I can't even begin to imagine how bad the fronts will be...

If you want to bring your car over my house, I can torch them off for you in about 10 seconds. You can still drive it without the end links connected.

Why is this one capped at 10 cars?

It's not (see post #1). We just start with 10 empty spots to save space in the thread.

I have the whole rear sway bar removed, but I want to stop at the dealer after work tomorrow to find out how much the endlinks are. I might have you torch off the front ones if im gonna have to replace those too.
