Mazdaspeed vs racing beat sound and size

unfortuneatly I can't remember where I was reading it but I remember something about the MSP axleback being a RB-hybrid of sorts. it was an off shoot of the typical muffler that RB makes and they apparently drone above 3500 rpms... this could be wrong but that was what I was reading.

No I understand all that jargon.. I guess I should have been more situation specific. I meant how is it that an axle back and a cat back made by the same company, for the same car that SHOULD have relatively the same diameter piping(inside and out) and the, what i thought to be, same muffler be louder than the longer more opened up cat back???

apparently something is different then?
actually, the mazdaspeed axle back for the p5 (p5 sport exhaust) is made by bosal, not racing beat. the mazdaspeed axle back that is found on the MSP and MP3 are actually made by racing beat. the catback for the p5 is made by racing beat. mazda just licensed out their exhausts to bosal and stuck on mazdaspeed etching on it. looking at the two exhausts, you'll see that the racing beat exhaust has a bigger muffler and smaller tip, although the ID of the piping is larger. it's the muffler that's the difference here as well as the resonator right after the second cat.

Sidpro5: Haha yes they do sound good, I suppose thats all that counts :)
Actually, I meant that my crazy theories sound good (to me, anyway). But both exhaust systems sound good as well........and for many that is the bottom line. If you're looking for SOME (ie: small gains) performance, though, sound alone won't cut it.

Just got the Racing Beat cat-back installed on Tuesday...love the sound, and the butt-dyno says it's good for a little more top-end power. The question if have is for others that have this setup on a P5...does it stick out about 1" past the bumper on your cars? That's the only thing I find a little annoying. Probably better for keeping black marks off the paint, but it looks kind of funny when you're standing right behind the car.

Yeah, Netguy. Mine sticks out like that too. Luckily, I can't see it from the drivers' seat. lol But I can feel it.

they make a shorter one for the P5 ... they should have 2 types.. one for the sedan and one for the P5??? Did you not have an option?????

This was the "right" one for the P5. It doesn't look totally wrong or anything...just not what I was expecting. If it wasn't snowing, I'd take a pic.

I just installed my MP5 RB catback tonight that I got on Rishie's GB. Tip is almost flush with the rear valence. (Tip also is dented in slightly at the top ..the perils of UPS cross-country I guess)
Deep, mellow sound, slight bass drone around 80mph but the butt-o-meter detects a slightly increase in response, acceleration, top end pull. (4HP per site?)
(It sure looked like an EXPORT label on the box.. made in C****??) All the welds were top notch. I weighed the RB vs. stock and the RB comes out 5 lbs. heavier, but it is a more rugged construction than the cheezy OEM exhaust.
PICS later

I installed mine on Wednesday... nice sound and very well built (no dents on mine?). I just notice that it seems smoother throughout the powerband. Installing my kartboy hangers tonight! :)

its a shame that the exhaust is heavier than stock.. :(

But Im kinda having a hard time seeing the dent? I think its the glare? Looks good though

Anybody running a setup with a header and a hi-flow cat - and the racing beat exhaust?? (Is this even possible) If so, what gains did you receive?

melicha8 has that setup. he says the power curve raised and its awsome. his car sounds sooo good

Just installed the RB cat back and it is a solid system. The butt dyno says YAY! The definately is more pepier and, in my opinion, the sound is at least twice as loud as stock (w/ AEM CAI) and has a deep sound as described by nearly everyone that has one. The tip does stick out like others have described too...looks good though. Here are some pics of the RB cat back vs stock....

Guys,

Is it possible just to get the RB Muffler and not the cat-back?

For Canadians: How much did the RB cat-back cost?

Dude! you just missed an E-Bay item that ended about noon PST saturday for the Racing Beat "muffler only" piece. As of 1 hour to go it had zero bids and the guy only wanted $70.00 bucks. It was clean too, and for the SEDAN only. Try to see if you can find him/it.
