Mazdaspeed Protege Transmission vs Mazda Protege Transmission

so my transmission went on my 2003 mazdaspeed protege and was just wondering if it can be replaced with a regular protege one. I am aware that the regular protege is an open diff and not an lsd diff but would it still work? Would be nice if it did, very difficult too find a cheap used mazdaspeed one lol

You can swap the LSD into a regular protege trans. No need to downgrade.
