Mazdaspeed 3 Carbon Fiber Vented Hood

I hope this isnt a dumb question, but can a carbon fiber hood be painted to match the car ? Will it look like a factory painted hood, or can you tell its carbon fiber ?

yes it can be painted,yes it will look like a stock hood after some paints, and if u paint it it will look like a normal hood

^ yup... but to me it defies the point.. carbon fiber is badass looking!

if you plan on painting it might save you some money if you just find a fiber glass hood you like

actually i would clear coat it again after i get it. Protect it some more. But if you do paint it, you dont have to worry about it getting bad and flaking and doing the usual carbon fiber thing.

FYI, while I like the whole carbon fiber idea and look, there have been many discussions about wether or not this would be a positive gain for the Mazdaspeed3. Being that there is a significant amount of wheel hop and torque in a front wheel drive car, there may be advantages to having a heavier front end to this car. Therefore, decreasing the weight on the front of the car may affect the stability, lift, and traction of the front wheels.

I would definitely agree^^
I am aware that by decreasing the weight in the front, wheel hop can and probably will be a problem
but for me i hardly ever race from a dig or 1st gear roll.. I typically do like 30's and i doubt the hop would be bad in 2nd gear..
Im more into looks of a car than racing all the time anyways and i want that hood!
so i guess it just depends on what the owners into

I hardly think that shaving 30 lbs off of the front will have a considerable effect on lift and wheel hop.

Im not entirely sure how much weight it shaves but i thought it was more than that?
even so i bet you would be surprised how much difference that weight makes

in stock form the car wheel hops. if you have the right mods to correct this you won't have wheel hop problems anyway.

Check your sources again bud. The stock hood does NOT weigh 72 freakin pounds.

I know what source he used... When you go to SU and click on the vented hood for ms3 it lists the stock hood weighing 72 which I think is obviously a little off; )
When you click on the OEM carbon fiber hood they list the stock weight as being 39 which makes a little more sense
Either way the stock hood is a beast and is pretty darn heavy

I just put my oem hood on my bathroom scale, without the underhood ducting its weighed in at 30.8 Lbs.

I did use SU's numbers. Not sure if that is little amount is worth it, but I still like the scoop for cooling the TMIC.
