Mazdaspeed 3 Carbon Fiber Vented Hood

thanks!total cost it was nearly 1300 to get it shipped to texas. I only got it becuase i had hail damage.
-Should look sick on a silver car especially if you have some nice black pieces to accent it(black emblems, side markers, fog lights etc.)

It nearly took a month, supposedly fiber images was in the middle of moving locations and thats why it took so long..I was told it would be built in 7-10 days and be shipped in 5-7...
Power is there instantly with the extra air coming in.. no waiting around for that turbo ; )

more pics coming soon, i painted my emblems black and took off the side moldings today, probably gonna black out my reflectors even more and do the side markers this weekend

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!

I wanted the vented hood so badly but in California, the cops are already finding any reason possible to make you pop your hood for a ticket, so I dont need a vent to attract more attention to my BRIGHT RED MS3.

I got the red carbon kevlar hood and hatch, and I love the color and everything. SU even paid the shipping for me when the delivery comapny asked me to pay an ADDITION $385 because they tried to deliver the hood/hatch while I was still in Iraq. But anyways, I am going for the roofskin next too, so I will post pics once I get it on.

Pics of the hood and hatch can be found on www.********************* under the MS3 section, for pics and reviews. ;)

Don't want to be a wet blanket, but I would need to see some data before I believed this hood was functional. It's totally counter-intuitive, but a forward facing scoop will not necessarily take air in.

Flow has everything to do with pressure balance, and there is a high pressure zone right in front of your car from it pushing air out of its way. Then there's another high pressure zone against the windshield for the same reason. The former high pressure zone is undoubtedly the reason for the stock leading-edge inlet, and the latter zone is the reason cowl-induction hood scoops work. Between the two (right where this scoop is) is a low pressure zone. Depending on what the pressure is like in the engine compartment, there may be zero flow through that scoop, or hot air could even be getting forced out! Sounds sketchy I know, but it's possible. You can be sure that Mazda wind-tunnel-tested the leading-edge inlet in conjunction with the underbody tray to be effective, so chances are it flows more air to the TMIC than an aftermarket scoop.

As with most carbon hoods, this is probably more of an appearance mod than a functional one. And saying that this hood eliminates turbo lag is just silly :p

Hmm.. your opinion i guess..
Most muscle cars have vented hoods so Im not sure why you are suggesting its ricey... Its a lightweight carbon fiber hood that feeds air directly to the intercooler.. BUT to each his own

Pics that the guy took from the shop.. still have the stripes on haha

I'm glad someone finally posted some pictures of this. When I saw the pics on SU site the vent seem to be a perfect size IMO. Now seeing pictures of this vent and my opinion is that it's huge!!! Whether that's good or bad aesthetics I don't know.

From some of the angles that you guys posted pics of it's hard for me to draw a conclusion. IMO- the scoop from some of the angles that the pics show is too big. I would need to see this thing (obviously) in person or some better angles.

For all other arguments; unless you're running a TMIC I guess it's worth the buy. FMIC runners- to more efficiently cool your engine bay you would need reverse venting.

I plan on getting more pics hopefully soon.. waiting on a friend whose got the camera to get some of his mods done...
This will mean nothing to you but i thought that the scoop was perfect sizing..its really only raise up a couple of inches and the width suits it quite well..
ill try and help you out with some more pics but i will say the hood( to me ) flows quite well with the car and looks fantastic

O and btw.. on the highway i noticed i am holding at 18 now(normally hold around 16)
Im assuming its the extra air flow coming in but the only mods i have is forge bypass valve, nano intake and a muffler/resonator deleted exhaust..

Are you going to paint it or leave the CF look?

Also if you have a dashhawk, what are your boosted temps?

nah im not painting it.. i like the look

and kain there basically is.. all the air is forced down on the intercooler, hard to explain but where the scoop is they made like a platform underneath that stops directly at the intercooler and since it is sealed with the rubber stuff theres really no where else for the air to go...
