Mazdaspeed 3 Carbon Fiber Vented Hood

I`m one of those who feels like anything that is put on to make a car look like it should be fast but contributes nothing to making it faster is "rice".
Putting a skin on the roof to make it look like a lightweight panel was there instead of the factory panel qualifies.
At least the hood would shave a few pounds off the front of the car.
Hood would shave pounds and if vented provide good airflow to the TMIC. You could get it painted to hide the rice look I guess.

I agree that the skin is kinda gay.. there are replacement tops for the roof however that would shave weight..
I just don't see how a carbon fiber vented hood is ricer...? Especially when its fully functional,
Many people would call all mazdas ricers... I mean we are driving 2.3 liter turbo'ed mazdas...everyone has their own opinion i suppose..

I would never consider painting a carbon fiber hood.. it looks sick as is.

My dad owns a red c6 z06 vette and put carbon fiber letters in the indention "corvette" at the bottom right... looks sick but i guess thats ricer?

The hood alone I wouldn`t call ricer simply because it shaves pounds and increases airflow through the engine compartment (or it is supposed to). This means it contributes to making the car faster. The combo of the hood and the pointless (other than to look faster) roof skin meets my definition.

Odd choice for an accent piece, but it has nothing to do with making the car look faster, so as odd a choice as it might look to me, it doesn`t meet my definition of ricer.

Thanks for clearing up your view of ricers,
so i guess hood stripes would be ricer (dont make the car faster, just for looks)
Shelby gt 500's must be way ricer
some things are meant to look nice or cool, not to just add performance to the car, many things are done to all kinds of cars just for looks, doesn't make them a ricer... But i honestly dont care i just want pics of the hood..

still looking for pics

I have the OEM style hood from FI, I decided that since I went with a FMIC ther was no sense in getting the vented hood.

Nope, since you brought it back up, they wouldn`t. They aren`t a fake performance enhancing mod. Some cars look good with them. Some don`t. All personal taste. I thought I was clear that mods that are designed to make the car look like it has been modified to be faster but contribute nothing to actually making it faster are my personal definition of rice, like a fake cf roof panel.
So how about we drop it here, as I`m sure everyone else is thoroughly bored with this threadjack.

My apologies, all.

Fake performance enhancing mod? WTF...alrighty.. "some cars look good with them...All personal taste" THANK YOU... it is now dropped...

could someone photoshop the stripe from the black car onto the red car? i bet it would look sick

i think the roof skin is more for the black top/black hood look. not to look faster. personally, i don't think a black roof looks "fast". and plenty of people just like the look of carbon fiber, just for an "accent piece"...... and then for you to say that the carbon fiber "corvette" lettering isn't considered rice in your book, but a cf roof skin is... well, that just doesn't make sense.

what I think IS rice about carbon fiber anything, is FAKE carbon fiber. like the hood on the new challengers and the interior pieces.

I really hoped this was going to be dropped, as even I am bored with it now.
The reason I dissed the roof panel is that the point of CF pieces is to save weight, thereby making the car faster. Putting a CF piece over the original piece does not save weight, it adds some. So what you have accomplished is the illusion of a performance enhancing modification with none of the benefits. To me that screams rice. It has nothing to do with looks. If you like the look of CF and want to layer your car in it and it has nothing to do with trying to make it look modded for speed but just a texture/color preference, then that is your style choice. Lettering does not enter into the discussion because no sane person could mistake it for a performance modification. A CF roof panel on the other hand...

It's kind of like the hood on the 2010 MS3, which is HOT. I much prefer the 07-09 MS3, but I do like the vented hood.
It would look even better painted to match the body.

lol mid_life_crisis. some people actually like to do stuff that aesthetically pleases them. and in this specific example, some people find that the look of carbon fiber contrasts their car's original color really well, or goes well with some other under lying theme with the styling of the car. you keep trying to fit a square into a circle by reiterating the point that 100% of the people who opt for the fake carbon fiber look is 1) looking for weight gains FIRST and then 2) looking for aesthetics when its 50/50 that #2 might come first for some of these people.
