Mazdaspeed 3 Carbon Fiber Vented Hood

yea i gotcha..
the only argument i have is that i find it possible the stock hood doesn't allow the intercooler to work at its best potential..quote from you "the scoop isn't changing anything besides air flow".. one rule ive always heard, anytime you increase airflow you increase horsepower and gas mileage..
although i completely understand what you are saying
The problem i had earlier was that people were trying to say "I guarantee this hood doesn't push any more or less air through the intercooler at speed"
that is basically saying that no air goes through a vented hood..

I see what your saying though its just weird how i saw boost gains out of it.. and the gains are only at highway speeds so IDK... I got the hood more for looks than performance so I don't truly care enough to try and prove my results

the hood is very nice but its way too much money to blow on one item like that. Would be great if the duct came stock like the srt-4 neon one, completely lane they get a hood scoop AND the fmic, they shouldnt have a hood scoop if they have a front mount. **** even the toyota 4-runner has a freakin hood scoop for some idiotic reason.

The hood on the SRT4 has ducting under the hood that sends air from the scoop over the rear of the engine where the turbo is.

I like the look of the hood, but would like to see it paint matched on a TR before pulling the trigger lol.

increased airflow adds performance within the engine. i think people were trying to state the airflow from the hoodscoop wont push more air than the stock hidden system....if thats the case i beg to differ also. with direction of that air youll put way more air to the IC.

i agree with the hoodscoops though....some are a little rediculous that they put them on for absolutely no reason. lol

its big money thats true and honestly you could get a fmic kit for less. i love how the hood looks i would definitly buy it for the fact that i can cool my ic better but for that kind of money it makes me look at other options.

if the argument is if you gain performance having a scoop or not that answer is yes. if i made you put on 3 snow jackets and pants then made you run for 1 hour vs if you had on shorts and a t shirt how well will you perform? same idea with the scoop, you cool the IC better and that in turn gives cooler air to give better performance. no you wont gain 50whp with a scoop but the fact that it can cool air better is a performance upgrade. hot air is less dense, cold air is more dense, what that means is the colder the air the more there is which also means more fuel gets injected to compensate for the density of air...so more air/fuel mixture in the clyinder equals....better performance. now i'm not saying with the scoop you'll go and kill z06 vetts but it will help your car.

wholemilk... i heart you.. haha jk but ty for stating the obvious.. its funny you mention z06's cuz my dad has a 08 ; )

and believe me i wouldnt have got this hood if it wouldnt have hailed here..
insurance adjuster gave me a little extra so instead of taking thhe hood dints out i threw on a new one..
i have a 10 year 100 k mile warranty which i try to keep in tact.. front mounts are sweet but not exactly a easy switch for dealer trips..
plus my car always acts funny with new mods

obvious for you and i ;) but when people hear more air they hear shoving more air into the intake which is different than having cooler air flow into it. they may be the same volume in the end but its different and its surprising how people may not know it. but i love vetts and lucky you with the insurance, i probably would of done the same lol. and i know what you mean for the fmic, i thought about that too and thats one of the reasons why i havent done an fmic conversion yet.

keyword....yet. WOOHOO!

sleeper3 what a coinky dink.. i think you are funny!

front mounts are sweet and definitely add a aggressive look..

i am not a mechanical engineer...anyone think the burly stock hood comes into play during a front impact crash? everytime i crack the hood, i am stunned about the weight. it has to reinforce the crumple zone.

my spare tire is factored in on my 911. it IS the reinforcement to the front end.

clearly, the hood comes into play on a front impact... I guess you're asking if it will change whether you live or die? I doubt it has a huge effect on the matter.

it's heavy because it's steel, and it's steel because steel is cheap.

you have a point.. but id have to agree with sleeper.. I highly doubt it will determine the life of the driver.. Regardless of the speed of the collison I can't see the hood being the determining factor

well i hope you get to feeling better...
that protege at the bottom of your post made me a little sick ; )
