MazdaMotorsports Final Drive 4.833 Yes!!!!

Ok, I was doing my weekly search at Mazdamotorsports to see what was new for our engines and I saw this was being offered for our Pros... My prayers where answered..see This.

I am seriously thinking about doing this mod:
0000-02-3601 C FINAL DRIVE, 4.833 Protege 2.0 DOHC 2000-01 $2,368.55
*Notes: 4.833 ring and pinion. Fits all G-type transmissions. Includes bolts.

Do you know how quick our P5's would get with this final drive on. Better yet those MP3's out there that do serious Auto-x will greatly benefit from this as well.

This is the cure for that nasty 8.82 0-60mph and 16.7 1/4 mile times.

This will help you Rev Faster. It will not affect daily driving you'll just go through the gears faster.

Gas Milage will go down do to the higher revs your engine will be at. If you are doing 60mphs at 2,500 rpms with the stock 4.105 Final Drive (this is just an example) with the new 4.833 Final Drive you'll be doing 60mph at 3,300 rpms.

You can learn to control this. (I did when I had my Integra GSR with a 4.785 Final Drive) I used to shift my Acura at 3,500 RPMs when cruisin.

Gas Milage will be affected with almost all performance mods (Except the Intakes)!

If you want to keep the good gas milage I do not recommend modding your car...

Damn, at 4.833:1 you wouldnt need first gear anymore, but it sure would be sweet for auto-X.

Do I read that right? $2300 for a ring and pinion? Thats got to be a whole differential. LSD?

In my opion our Pros need to have a higher rev ceiling to get a real benefit from lower final drive gearing. I mean, the Pros don't come close to reving out like the type R. But that's just my opion based on the way I drive.

it would GREATLY effect your gas milage......as it is now one complaint I hear all the time is how HIGH our engine is revving at highway speeds.....3300 at 70 MPH......so now its going to do 3300 at 60?

SURE it will make the car a lot QUICKER....it will TOP OUT a lot faster.....if all you are going to be doing is racing the car this is a WONDERFUL mod.....if you do much highway driving....I think it would be a BAD IDEA.....do you think you would like your engine running at 4000 rpm or so when you are curising on the highway? ... NOT ME!

I agree with ya Sir Nuke But, I live in Puerto Rico (100 miles by 35 Miles) Not much highway crusin here...I get everywhere I need to go in 15 to 25 minutes. Tell ya what, I have never even used Cruise Control.

I know that your gas milage can be hurt if you don't control your pedal...but you'll be able to beat the Matrix XRS thats for sure..and that's without even modding the engine.

The only thing that worries me is the Cost$$$ Wow!
I bet they use this in the World Challenge touring P5 that's why it's so expensive. Just like the high comp pistons they use..cost $1000+

Extra shifts?

With a shorter gear ratio you might need an extra shift to reach a certain speed, which means at least 0.5sec. of time, right??

That final drive has been on there for a long time. I was thinking of geeting that as well as a part of my overall transmission upgrade. The increased acceleration might be worth the loss of top end speed.

I'm willing to lose the some 20 mph that would come from the change.

you would definately get more power out of a turbo and all that, but if you autocross? youd be bumped up into a dif. class right? wouldnt that kill you? and if you would get that final drive thing would that also put you in a dif HARD competing class?

Not if you don't tell them it's there....

The thing about turbo is that our engines are not made for it! I see it like beating the hell out of a horse so he runs faster...The horse will eventually give up...

Our car is good enough to be competitive in it's class with the allowable changes in the stock class without cheating as you suggest in your post. This mod will put you into the FSP class where there WILL be some fairly highly modded cars that are very fast, but not unbeatable. You should probably also do other mods to becompetitive in that class(headers, exhaust, flywheel, clutch, suspension, LSD, etc.). There are usually a pretty good group of drivers in that class as well so you should probably get some seat time as well.

Bottom line, don't be a cheater! That is what screws thngs up for everyone and creates all kinds of crazy rules that have to be followed. It will also be VERY embarrasing when someone figures you out and protests you.
