map clamp help

Ah boost controller is what I want then eh Mid. I want to run a max of seventeen in fourth, 5 and 6th. Can you set a boost controller for gears and rpms or just max boost? sorry to be dumb and on top steal thread at the same time. Jarod any thoughts sir?

If you are running more boost than normal for the car shouldn't you add more fuel?

The computer does that automatically. It isn't the pressure so much as the attendant increased volume of air that requires more fuel.
A MAP clamp serves two purposes. The obvious one is to fool the ECU so it doesn't use the wastegate actuator to reduce boost.
The less obvious one is that it can serve as a poor man's tuner. Different boost levels call for different a/f mixtures. Generally speaking, for safety reasons, the higher the boost, the richer the mix. If you monitor your a/f ratios carefully, you can use the MAP clamp to select a boost pressure reading that yields the ratio you want under hard acceleration.

You need a boost controller and either a boost cut defender or a MAP clamp.
Without the clamp or defender to fake out the ecu, the computer will use one of its other methods to protect the engine from overboosting. Because the ecu is being faked out and will not limit boost, you need to put something in to do that, which is where the boost controller comes in.

You would need a way to tell what gear the car is in, for starters. There are electronic controller systems that are fairly programmable, but they are obviously more expensive than manual ones.

Ok so i built a map clamp according to the instructions....now when i turn the boost up it doesnt fuel cut but the car surges. I am not sure what is causing this...has anyone else experienced this or something similar with clamp? I Have adjusted the voltages all over the places and it still seems to do nothing.

What does it mean if I am rich and the car surges under heavy throttle in the higher gears. I wonder

Myn still hits fuel cut if the boost gets too high....there seem to be many different cuts on this car...and there is one around 20+psi or so. I am not exactly sure.

Well myn was related to my boost controller tuning issues. I constantly have to adjust it for temperature but it works well. If itn surges you could be pulling timing (knock), blowing out spark(damaged plug or too large of a gap). those would be my two guess at your problem. How rich are you running when you say rich because the speeds inherently run < 10.0 in the higher RPMs which is consdered extremely rich.

The speed 3 ecu limits boost. Depending what turbo you run and if you have the right tuning software. I have the standback2 and a gt3076r and some other goodies and I can run as high as 23 psi right now. I am also very close to maxing out my MAF sensor. At 23 psi that is the cutoff as of now. Cp-e is investigating the stock ecu to be able to run as high as 30psi. Not that anyone is veer gonna run 30psi...its more acts like a safety net.

^^
I confirmed on mine that it was boost cut as the free flowing exhaust at higher speeds caused excess boost due to creep.

Well guys it turns out all my problems stem from the signal for the boost control solenoid being take off the nipple from the turbo. Today i installed a nipple in the intercooler and it made a world of difference. Holds boost much better does stutter and i can actually tune the greddy unit now.
