Lower air box...

I'm going to take advantage of the good weather tomorrow and remove my lower air box. The upper one went away months ago when I got my SRI. Now, this is going to leave a rather large hole leading into the engine compartment fairly close to the air filter. I'm probably being paranoid, but should I worry about this fairly large hole?

P.S.- MS6-specific bumper removal How-To forthcoming, perhaps... (thumb)

I was told by a former owner once you remove that box you need to cover that hole. He had issues with the filter getting wet until he covered it up.

that lower box is the intake resonator.
Yes it helped keep matter/water away from the filter.

The vents in the fender liner allow for much more air flow to that stock intake.
When it is removed, you dont necessarily need to block the vents off completely.
If you have a CAI, just put on a HydroShield and/or heatshield, that is angled between the filter and the vented openings.

For short ram, really nothing needs to happen. Unless you live in a very damp and wet climate, the above suggestions work just fine. If you DO live in such conditions, skip the CAI... go SRI.

oh btw, you shouldnt really need to write a bumper removal. Its really easy and many how-to installs include a quick writeup for that too.
Basically 2 bolts, 2 plastic screws on top. about 6 screws along teh underside edge.
and 2 to remove under the fender liners. then detach foglight & cornerlight harnesses.
ofc, the first 3 plastic fender screws removed from the front towards the top is removed too.

After removing the bumper yesterday to take out the resonator, I can see that I really have very little to worry about. I would have to be driving through some really, REALLY wet weather to have any sort of issues.

Apologies if I am hijacking the thread.

I was going to remove this resonator on the weekend, but didnt because I was not sure how sensitive these cars are to playing with the intake. Cannot afford a CAI or SRI at the moment so I was looking to remove the resonator and replace the filter with a K&N one (unless there is a better one).

In doing this should I be worried about altered AFR's or not?
