LinuxRacr's Haltech E6X Log..

I wish I had known about the space bar before. That definitely would have helped. It will be interesting to compare our maps. (drinks)

After last night's cooler weather tuning, I decided to do some 100 F degree weather tuning this afternoon. I found some more pining as the temps got hotter. I adjusted the timing down accordingly in the 10-12 PSI range, and around 4000-5000 RPM. You will notice a small "creator" in that range. I also changed my max timing from 35 degrees to 36 down low, out of boost. So now the map is a degree taller. Here is the result:

Ok, so this morning on the way back from Plano, I decided to take a detour down Preston, and into the heart of Dallas to test some low-gear timing. As a result, I once again modified my timing, and pulled a little fuel out, but oh man, THE TORQUE!!! It is smoother, and better than ever before. My current turbo kit is good for about 250-270 HP (efficiently) I found after research (phonecall to Corky Bell), so I may turn the boost up on the T3 while am waiting to kick ass with my version 1 Mental Addiction Sleeper Kit which will be capable of the 300 HP I seek. Until then, here is my current map:

Let's compare this to my previous map, and you will see why I had to retune this biatch. Now click the picture of the map in the previous post, and then click the picture below. You will notice with the picture below, that the high plateau is at 21 degrees! THAT'S LOW! (eek2). You will also note at the top left the point where I am on the map shows 6500 RPM's, and 93.90 kPa (13.61 PSI). So what that means is at redline, and at my highest boost, I was at 13 degrees of timing!! OMGWTFBBKMMMMMMBYE!!! (eek2)(eek2)

More changes tonight. At 6000-6500 RPM and 13.6 PSI, I am at 23 degrees of timing. I also smoothed out the map in the lower RPM ranges into boost (where I'll never drive). I got some rave reviews tonight about the way it pulls now.
(alright)

hey man, that is badass! I look forward to where you're taking this... (drinks) (wrc)

excellent. Glad to see your getting the gains you should, and are cooling the combustion

After talking to Corky about my BEGI kit, I know now that my intercooler is my limiter now. He told me that the mathematical calculations he did for that IC places it in the 270 HP range. The only issue is that 1/3 of it is behind the bumper. He says that air is being forced to that area anyway, but the IC is effectively operating at 2/3 efficiency. While this wasn't an issue with the original specs of the kit (max 8 PSI), it is effectively a limiter for higher boost and HP. So effectively, I should be able to run 250 HP. I noticed at 13 PSI, I got some pretty damn warm Air temps. When they got 50 celcius and above, I would get ping in the areas of the map that I previously reduced timing in. I must be somewhere close to 240-250 WHP right now due to the reworked igition timing. (drinks)

yep got to ride in it last night and it pulled really good, a thousand times better than before IMHO....

Keep up the good work Patrick and continue to fine tune that sucker !!!!

patrick, this thing in my mind pulled like vic's sti did when we when to tx meet 1. A hard back to the seat feeling, more so than ahmad's 15 pound fury.

Out of curiousity, what was it that lead you to make these drastic changes?

Well damn man, get off that ass and put the new one on!!!!! You have a beast of an intercooler there, you might as well get on it! You'll have to tune some more when you change over anyway so.........GET ON IT, you've waited long enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!(thumb)

A few things:

1. Frustration. Nothing had went right this week. At work, the damn red tape has held up my app for a corporate credit card that I need for a business trip next week. Then my in-car VGA screen went out on me, so I have no working carputer right now. And then the fact that I took vacation (since I am usually too busy to do it any other time) to do some major car work, but due to circumstances, it didn't happen. I knew the ignition map needed to be re-worked for a while now, and was waiting to put on my new setup before re-tuning. Since that didn't happen, I needed something to go right this week. When something doesn't go right, I generally channel my frustration into something constructive.

2. Necessity. I'd been running too retarded for long enough, which promotes high EGT's...

3. Experience. It was a good experience doing this.

See above post...:)

groovy. I was a little surprised at my own high EGTs initially, but the first dyno tune got the ignition advanced to where the EGTs were finally safe, and the power was being made. It's quite satisfying to make this kind of progress, eh?

Linux... you can compensate for the intercooler size with water injection... can in some cases nearly double the size of the IC with W/I. If I run out of headroom on my IC then I'm going to add the injection... BTW... what is the size on your IC?

Not sure, but I plan on using the Mental Addiction IC real soon anyhow, so the problem will go away.

Becuase he finally started to believe in himself again... I was always like why did you have somebody else tune your s***? when you know a large part of peoples tuning skills on this forum, came from your own expereinces that we read off of this forum!

I was like you need to retune that ******* blow-torch of a tune and make s*** right. I said why in the hell are you not the fastest in DFW? becuase you don't have the right tune, that's why!!!

You should have heard Patricks laughs when he got done with that tune and took us for rides, Shear Bursts of true emotional Joy!!!! I think more becuase he realized agian that he truly has GOOD tuning capabilities...

and for the fact, with the old tune he had, I could ask him to bring his car over becuase I had some welding to do... hahahahahahah
