Lighting in trunk?

Naw, I have to hit the switch on the neon controller. I have no idea how you'd wire it to turn on when the p5 trunk is open.

Its a level sensitive swtich, they are commonl caled mercury tilt switches and were common in remote starters for a while. When the switch gets to a certain angle, the mercury makes contact over some terminals. You can use it to jump a relay to power the lights.

where can i get these (in a store, not online?) i tryed calling a few places and they were like, wtf

You can get them at Best Buy in the computer department. They're made by a company called Modware, whose tagline is,
dig this: "Get Lit and Chill Out"

One of my favorite company slogans ever...

Can't ionize neon with 12v. It takes several thousand volts to light it and to keep it lit. It would be a major current draw too (and a little dangerous).

I think y'all are maybe talking about flourescent. A 12v battery input to a power supply, and it's output is probably around 600 or 800 volts to flouresce the gas, but at a relatively low current (especially compared to neon). It'll still suck your battery dry faster than the stock incandescent light though.

I have two white cold cathodes that piggyback into an inverter.. I was going to use them inside of an amp rack/box project for my car but it never came about so now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them now. Hm, in fact maybe I can salvage that idea or something, since I actually made the box out of MDF and all that needs to be done is carpet it, mount the fans, and such.. Dunno.. Anyways, they ended up costing me about 25 bucks shipped. My problem was I was going to fuse them but I can't find a fuse small enough.

dude just do what i did
i have a 4 foot neon blue in my trunk that is taped in the light wires, so therefore when the trunk opens its comes on. i dont have it mounted that way i want to right now but will in time since i am doing custom work in the trunk!!!
ill take a pict if u want!!!
2 wires TOO EASY TO DO!!
no controllers needed

The light in the p5 trunk does not turn off and on when the trunk is open....it's on that swtich in the back...

Most cold cathode lights are 12v because most are designed to be put in computers. Computers are 12v.

the trunk light has a switch that makes the light turn off when the door is closed even if the switch is on so you can actually hook a light/neon/leds up to the stock light bulb stocket/wires

if you leave the switch to the light on and shut the trunk the light goes off, so I just leave the switch on all the time.

the light goes on and off when you open the lid as long as you leave the switch in the on position. the reason there is a switch is so you can shut the light off if you leave the lid open for an extended time and you don't wanna kill your battery. if you tap into that switch for your power, you should be all set because the circuit is already fused.
