2010 Mazda 6, bought feb 2010

For about a week now the cars been acting up. 99% of the time it starts great and 2 times it wouldnt start for some reason. Went out today and stopped at 4 places with car shut off, about 2 hours total time. then went to take neighbors to the theatre and it wouldnt start for anything just now. The car acts like it doesn't recognize the key. The key can still be used to unlock and lock the car. When trying to start it, the key warning light flashes red as well as the security indicator light. and the little light on the key flashes red but the green light on the start button would not light up. also for the first 2 mins the orange lettering around the start button wouldnt light up either. sent the kids home, sorry, and got the wifes key. she hardely uses hers and it worked fine. green light came on like a champ. How do you change the batteries in the keyless fob if possible??? the nearest dealership is 101 miles round trip so i hope it can be done at home. whith the wifes key all the lights and such come on bright and steady so it shouldnt be the cars battery as it is driven every couple days. any help is appriciated.

Flat car battery i think.

i believe there are instructions in the manual for changing the battery. if not, heres the steps, pull the spare key out, along the bottom edge of the key is a piece that will pop out with a screwdriver or pocket knife.

then just give a tap or two on a table to get the battery to slide out. i believe its a cr-25 watch type battery.

oh nice. just noticed this thread was a few months old...i'm assuming the OP fixed the problem by now.
