yup thats the one... i think the car (or whats left of it after stripping) is still at the bottom of the valley too.

I haven't gone to take pics yet. My friend is still in the hospital. They did x-ray and CT scans and everything looks good. They are just keeping him for the day to make sure that he is not bleeding internally...

yeah were good buds .. hung with him alot last year .. i ran his msp faster then anyother time on the track .. pulled a flat 9.3 but then he blew the motor at Nopi .. lol

Still haven't heard from the insurance adjuster, but I am having a hell of a time trying to decide what to replace the 5 with (if it is indeed totalled).

The 2001 MX-5 SE with 34k miles sounds good at 15,000
Nissan SE-R Spec V? Lots of tq, but FWD
Focus SVT? Looks like fun, but again, FWD
MSP? Is great fun, but FWD
WRX? Kind of heavy, and how do these things hold up after 30k miles?
Maybe even a 2.5 RS? Same as above sans turbo...

This is not a complete list. I like way too many cars. If I were to decide today, I think it would be the MX-5, but I don't know how my lady feels about that (She is out of town).


Out of all of those listed, I have only driven the MSP, WRX and MX-5 (though it was a 5 speed not a 6). I know that this plays a very important role in deciding which car to get though. I am trying to keep my payments about the same as they are now (around 300/mo) so my budget is right around 15k.


How does the 5speed stack up against the 6? I read someplace that the final gears are the same in both cars, so RPMs would be the same while cruising. This leads me to believe that the first five gears are shorter in the SE and will accelerate better, no?

I vote MSP. I think it we be 95% as fun as the Miata but a better value b/c it has 4 doors and a roof. Miata is a close second. I might have to decide the tie by the type of weather you get in Sac-town. Warm summers but a solid 4-5 moths were you wouldn't even think of dropping the top, right?

Like I said, it was only about 20-25mph... you cant see it in the pics but the roof has a big crease in it, and the car is pretty crooked... For taking a dive into the ditch, I am surprised that there it not more damage. We literally did a cartwheel.
