just Home from the track :(

You'd be suprised at how little hoods weigh these days. Not much weight savings there. But then again, this is coming from the guy who's removed carpet fasteners in back seat....

Another drag trick I picked up(from the guys on the GRM forum), is using ratcheting tie downs to pull your engine tight to the rad support. This will keep the entire engine/drivetrain taught, and prevent wheel hop.

or put awr motor mounts in it

The 3rd Gen stock hood weighs 48lbs with the locking mechanism...thats kind of significant IMO...

The best CF hoods, without any fiberglass or metal frames...weigh in around 11-15lbs...

I still vote for the wheels... Those things are a huge mass of weight (I just realized you actually ride on 18's), and push all the weight to the outside edge of the wheel, no less, so I'm sure that's not exactly good news, as far for parasitic loss-wise.

wow, my hood weighs like 25lbs...when we took it off, I was ready to heave on it so we almost launched it into the air...

ours is pretty stiffened up with a bracket system underneath...I notice on a lot of small cars its very easy to bend the hood down when washing it...and my P5 I can barely get it to budge in the middle...

and actually, the 48lbs was quoted from AutoRnD I think...I never actually weighed it...but they were selling some hoods a while ago and I noticed they listed the stock hood weight for comparison...all I know is that it feels pretty heavy and bulky when you tear it off the car...a lot different than when you just prop it up...

my 18's do move the wieght to the outside but weigh almost 10 lbs lighter a piece than the stock mp3 17's

Our hoods don't much of anything. I remember when I swapped my buddies hood for a CF one, I couldn't believe how light the protege hood was. I nearly frisbee'd it across the yard.

45lbs? hmm...felt lighter than that..I put the hood on the brackets easily by myself. Carried it around the yard with just one hand..
