Told me once that they totally forgot to put oil in one ladies car and had to tell her to come back. I just got into a discussion with one guy at one of those "rapilube" places with my GFs car. They installed an air filter when it wasn't included in the price. I asked why they installed it if I only came for an oil change and he said "oh when we spoke you mentioned something about a filter so I assumed it was the air filter". I literally almost got into a fist fight with the fucktard cause obviously your shouldn't assume s***. It started to rain, so I let it end there. If I have to ever go there again, im gonna be a dick 120%.

But you know nothings wrong and call them out on it. Priceless when they deal with a customer who knows what they are actually talking about and can catch there lies.
God know's I tell my mother to let me do the scheduled checkups for her neon. Dodge tried to tell her she needed all new tires (tires were fine), she needed all this and that done. Which was bs. They just love taking money from people.

Everytime I see one of these things it fries me that there are dishonest people out there that do these sort of things. But, I feel its sorry quality people, not the industry. I have been taken at things as well, and even at shops when I have been on the other side of the counter, so I know how it feels.
I try to teach my students ethics as well as automotive tech, so that maybe they won't be tempted to steal. There are good folks out here who want to make a difference. Management in many shops is the root of these problems too. Not the corporation.
To quote one of the other posts, if you find a good tech, stick with them! And, if you feel you need to watch them, well, I suggest you need to find another shop. They won't come cheap, but they will be worth what you pay if you do your homework. And if all you care about is price, then again, you get what you pay for.
I won't work for cheap myself because my education over the last 16 years to keep updated and equipped with the necessary tools has nearly all come out of my pocket....
Good luck and happy motoring....

you're not safe at local shops either. My GF went in and needed some seals changed out on her Jeep....they quoted her 900 to change some seals and threw in some BS stuff that she'd need to get done or "That thing won't make it back home". I went back to the place to figure out exactly what they were charging her for and....get this...he "couldn't give me the details" but told me to "trust him". When he told me 900 to change out the seals I almost laughed out loud. I told him thanks anyway, I'd take it to my shop. He was a real jerk about it and said as I walked out, "Well, that's your choice, but you'll be back soon I tell you what."
Went to my shop that switched out the seals for 300 and haven't done a thing to the Jeep since. That was 15K miles ago...so much for "never make it home". About 2 months later the shop got bought out by someone else....I can't imagine why.......
Yea I heard about this a looong time ago. Jiffy Lube FTL. I took the Pro there once for an oil change. Upon checking out I asked them if they put air in the tires? And the guy goes, Um let me go check" and then I see the guy putting air in the tires? Ill never take any of my cars there again.
