Jiffy Lube busted

BAHAHA JCELL used to work at Jiffylube. Told me once that they totally forgot to put oil in one ladies car and had to tell her to come back. I just got into a discussion with one guy at one of those "rapilube" places with my GFs car. They installed an air filter when it wasn't included in the price. I asked why they installed it if I only came for an oil change and he said "oh when we spoke you mentioned something about a filter so I assumed it was the air filter". I literally almost got into a fist fight with the fucktard cause obviously your shouldn't assume s***. It started to rain, so I let it end there. If I have to ever go there again, im gonna be a dick 120%.
i wouldn't recommend being a dick...because as it happens in burgen king...if you are a bad customer, they'll spit on your food....they might scratch your car, disconnect stuff....cut stuff...and such

that's a no-no

ts funny also when they tell you " OH, when was the last time you had this done, or this is broken, you need to fix it now for the low low price we can give you of a gagillion dollars. But you know nothings wrong and call them out on it. Priceless when they deal with a customer who knows what they are actually talking about and can catch there lies.

God know's I tell my mother to let me do the scheduled checkups for her neon. Dodge tried to tell her she needed all new tires (tires were fine), she needed all this and that done. Which was bs. They just love taking money from people.

(werd)

on the way to New Mexico from Ohio with my brother in law, he poked a hole in a tire. we go to the nearest shop, nothing that we even really had a choice on, and i proceed to watch this lady get screwed over. the tech comes out and says "looks like we cleared that check engine light, but i do have something else you should look at." 5 minutes later "yes, i do need new tires." the tech goes back out, comes back in..."yes, i guess i do need new brakes too.."

meanwhile, i'm looking at my brother in law, saying, dude, your about to get bent over...our tech comes back in, says "your all set. $12."

i look at my brother in law and say, "pay the man before your brakes go too..."

I have been in the automotive business 16 years now the last 12 as an ASE Master Technician and the last 2 as an Automotive instructor for a local community college.

Everytime I see one of these things it fries me that there are dishonest people out there that do these sort of things. But, I feel its sorry quality people, not the industry. I have been taken at things as well, and even at shops when I have been on the other side of the counter, so I know how it feels.

I try to teach my students ethics as well as automotive tech, so that maybe they won't be tempted to steal. There are good folks out here who want to make a difference. Management in many shops is the root of these problems too. Not the corporation.

To quote one of the other posts, if you find a good tech, stick with them! And, if you feel you need to watch them, well, I suggest you need to find another shop. They won't come cheap, but they will be worth what you pay if you do your homework. And if all you care about is price, then again, you get what you pay for.

I won't work for cheap myself because my education over the last 16 years to keep updated and equipped with the necessary tools has nearly all come out of my pocket....

Good luck and happy motoring....

This is why I work on my own car. But I agree not all shops are like this.

This is why I do pretty much all my own work. The shop that I have payed to do work on my car in the past, does honest work.

I just noticed by looking at the bottom of the page, there a quite a few of these threads started...

thats no joke....i was doing an oil change on this elderly lady's car and she asking me how come everytime she uses her AC the whole inside of the car floods. I was like aaaaaah i dunno mam.....Turns out she got into a little scuffle with the prior shop who did her oil change and they put a oil drain plug in her AC flow drip line on the bottom of the car. So everytime she used her AC it would back up and over flow

well said....there are people like this in EVERY type of service. its not the industry (although a VERY VERY small percent of the corp company could contribute) but its mostly the people that work there....just dishonest and ugly people.(not looks but their actions)

My gf took her old Accord to one of those quick change places while I was out of the country (think it was Valvoline). She later got a low oil light, took it back and the guy said the idiot who changed her oil didn't replace the drain plug washer (never mind that I rarely do that as it isn't necessary each time). They supposedly took care of that, when I got home I checked the car out and found the plug loose and leaking. Needless to say I won't let her go back there.

I agree there are good shops around, but with today's environment of everyone wanting things done in a hurry, the other sort are more prevalent. They get away with it because let's face it, the average person doesn't know a lot about things mechanical. I try to do it all myself, that way I have no one else to blame if something screws up.

Haha, awesome. I worked for JL for 5 years. Never did any of that at my store. Hopefully being caught will teach 'em a lesson.

you're not safe at local shops either. My GF went in and needed some seals changed out on her Jeep....they quoted her 900 to change some seals and threw in some BS stuff that she'd need to get done or "That thing won't make it back home". I went back to the place to figure out exactly what they were charging her for and....get this...he "couldn't give me the details" but told me to "trust him". When he told me 900 to change out the seals I almost laughed out loud. I told him thanks anyway, I'd take it to my shop. He was a real jerk about it and said as I walked out, "Well, that's your choice, but you'll be back soon I tell you what."

Went to my shop that switched out the seals for 1/3 the price and haven't done a thing to the Jeep since. That was 15K miles ago...so much for "never make it home". About 2 months later the shop got bought out by someone else....I can't imagine why.......

Also, my own experience with a dealership:
I left my car sitting for about 2 months while I went home for the summer. Had my roomate start it, but he couldn't drive stick so it didn't get driven. The clutch was acting really weird and I had trouble getting the car into gear so I took it in to see if they could tell me what was wrong....keep in mind the car only had about 10K on the clock. The guy told me I'd need a complete clutch change, not covered under warranty. I told him there was no way the whole clutch needed replacing after 10K....it had to be a smaller problem he couldn't figure out. He said, "Nope, that thing is just shot". I walked out and after about a week it worked itself out and started acting normal again, that was 50K miles ago.

Yeah, man, I used to know a mechanic that would want to BS me all the time.

Yea I heard about this a looong time ago. Jiffy Lube FTL. I took the Pro there once for an oil change. Upon checking out I asked them if they put air in the tires? And the guy goes, “Um let me go check" and then I see the guy putting air in the tires? I’ll never take any of my cars there again.

Oh, come on. They didn't damage your car, didn't charge you $100 for something they didn't do.

Shocking story...

I try to do everything myself and if I don't have time or know how to do something, I have a guy friend who is a whiz with cars. He takes better care of his car than I do mine. He does everything for me and only charges me for parts provided I buy a round of beers for him and his gf next time I see them out.
