I hope I don't get flamed for saying this, but: the hi-boost looks a little too small for a heavily modded car, and a little too big for a not so modded (9/10 psi or lower) car... can anyone correct this theory ? in a humane way ? thanks...

I cant speak for the Hiboost one as I cant see the fins but I know the Mental Addiction and ION ones use good cores, that speaks volumes. Its not all about size its about efficency. Because the fins are closer together than the Perrin for example the same intercooler almost half the size will do the same job. Those intercoolers will handle alot more than 10psi, not that 10psi means anything unless you know what turbo your using.

I know Juan is using that same intercooler on his car and its over 300whp so it does more than what most people around here will need.

hmm thats interesting. Does the core have the same dimensions as the one for the msp?

as far as I know its the same one

there are quite a few people making around 300whp with these intercoolers

Thread edited...Guys, stay on topic and DO NOT start flaming up this thread or I will delete your posts.

Thanks...carry on.

I really like my BEGI FMIC now that it fits. I had issues with the piping hitting the stop airbox, and also the stock BPV not working with the fitting they had on mine. But, I've kinda gotten used to the idea that just because vendors say it fits, it might not. The gains from the BEGI are very, and I'm sure it will be even better if I ever get an EMS and turn the boost up.

I noticed @ 2 psi. increase in boost with the BEGI...so that's sure to help. Anyway, overall I'm happy with it, just wish I had known a little more about the type of setup they had on the test car.

Did you manage to fit it properly?
I think it is the only one with the TH SMIC that you can still use with factory air box. Also you can still use the cold side OEM pipe.
I have always been told by Jeff and Ken and that the BEGI is great and it is about the product and not the shine. Also, It is not as expensive.

i`ve had my hiboost fmic for almost 2 years and i really like it alot,I had a few problems when installing but no big deal. But one thing i noticed when boosting the car felt alot stronger and the psi increased by 1.5lbs more than stck boost>>when i increased the boost to 10psi is when i really felt some serious power kinda hard to drive..power shifting to 2nd gear was nothing but wheell spin and 3rd gear a little spin but overall i think the hiboost kit is pretty good .and it also looks good.

Some people here in PR are using the crappy OBX XS Power intercoolers...i must say, these intercoolers get the job done very well. Although the turbos are crap, the intercoolers are doing fine.
But, the only way to test all intercoolers is doing actual temp measurements of inlet and outlet of intercoolers.
Check the pictures of the core:

I will make sure to mediumly modify my car then so my fmic looks ok. Sorry to flame you a little bit.

don't forget, temperature and pressure drop

Been nothing but happy with the performance of my perrin. We had it straped to the dyno doing back to back pulls for 4 hours and there was no intake temp increase. In fact, it actually went down as the day progressed.

People can rag on it all they want because they think other kits are superior for this reason or that reason... Bottom line, its a badass core that does the job imo more effeciently than most others on the market. Aslo, when you compare the amount of piping in the kit to a kit like the hiboost, it really is clear why less is more in this situation and how you can get better performance out of the Perrin setup.

I wouldn't but a perrin

Your getting a big intercooler core, yes. Your also getting an intercooler that has half of it hidden behind the top and bottom of your bumper = 50% useless.

I guess its cool to replace your stock bumper support in echange for a cheap ass bumper support to make room for all that useless core!(boom07) .........
To cap off the greatness of the kit is the biggest price tag of any I know of.

Unless you find one used for cheap, I personally would go with a different kit

Well thats boloni(?), your radiator is even covered...air flow spreads/accelerates in order to maintain velocity, behind the bumper cover or under, it doesnt matter. As long as it doesnt flow around (gaps). Look at high powered cars...specially GT-Rs and Supras...they all hide some intercooler, is part of the deal, that doesnt make it worst.

Regarding the bumper reinforcements...those are for the US regulations of the 5mph crash test...thats it...an intercooler core that is almost solid and weights approx...35lbs should be better in a frontal crash.

Are you serious?

two things.
(1). Have you actually seen how the core is positioned in the bumper? Its not covered by the bumper AT ALL, it simply fits perfect around the opening. The endtanks are covered, thats it.

(2). Have you seen the stock bumper support? Its styrofoam and a big piece of s***. The replacement was much more sturdy than the stocker by far... but what do i know... its not like I OWN ONE OR ANYTHING.

im not gonna argue but the stock bumper isnt styrofoam. its metal. the foam is just padding. its not a piece of s***, it serves it purpose. has the perrrin bar been crash tested? no, so you cant say the oem piece is a piece of s***.

is the perrin bumper support a flat bar or larger? i havent seen one cept a proto and it looked like a flat bar. just curious.
