In-dash multiple disc changers

Question for all the audio gurus....

You see quite a few cars have OEM disc changers in the dash, but why don't you ever see any aftermarket units?

I'd love to upgrade my stock system, but don't want to get rid of the 6 disc changer. I know I can use it with an amp, but from what I've read the results are less than desireable.

all the aftermarket cd changers utilize a disc changer that you can put somewhere else...
trunk, glovebox, etc.

Thanks pd...I should have mentioned I'm not a total audio noob. I know about the remote changers, but then you have to get out of the car to change them. I love the in-dash design, but am surprised no one has come out with one.

Of course, there isn't a huge market for double-din receivers, so that may be the rub.

I thing I say one that was a single DIN size and connected to a single DIN head unit. I don't remember what brand it was, but I think I saw it @ Tweater. I hope this helps.

Found reference online to an old Alpine double-bin unit...looked like an 80's-era unit. It had the multi-color (red, yellow, green) spectrum analyzer in the display. I'm still searching though...I think the problem will be that there isn't a lot of demand, so there isn't much need for the manufacturer to refine them.

I just wish the factory multi-disc put out a better signal to amplify. Oh well....

Check out Nakamichi... they offer in dash, single-din 6 cd changers incorporated into the head unit. You will pay a premium ($500), but hey....it's Nakamichi, right?
