import vs. corvette

I read both of those articles and the nice thing about boost is that it broke it down to the cost of individual parts. Also the price in there also included labor, which was expensive to say that least. Most of the price came from body accessories (non-performance) and labor. The few performance pieces turned out to extremely expensive and very name brand. For the money you could do far better.

On a side note did you see the supercharged celica??? That thing was terrible, over 50k on top of the base price of the car to pull a high 14 second quarter mile. Not to mention you have to cut a hole in the hood to get the supercharger to fit. One thing I kind of liked about the mugen civic was the gauge cluster and of course the motor. Good God those wheels are expensive though.

A few months ago C&D released a magazine w/ the headline "Fourgasm". The top story include somewhere around 10 to 15 imports that were tuned by specific tuners. They had RSXs, Focuses, Civics, Jettas ... also a few RWD and AWD vehicles. I remember the vehicle that made the fastest lap time was a S2000 (i think) and the price total was around 80-90k. In the end they had a picture of a zo6 and under it was the statement that they ran the same track in the z06 and still beat all of the tuners.

BTW....c&d has come out with new magazine called BOOST. It has only one issue but it seemed pretty good to me. In the mag. they had a story on a new civic si w/ around 50k in mods and it still sucked. 0-60 in somewhere around the 7s. Granted....some of the mods where strickly visual upgrades.

Would you rather tell someone that you drive a civic sooped up (with the word civic stuck in their mind) or tell them that you drive 'vette Z06 ( with 'vette stuck in their mind).

I would definately choose the Z06. I dont know, i just think its in a totally different class and shouldnt be compared to a civic.

Yeah, I read about the celica. I've got the magazine upstairs. The celica was expensive as crap! I also like the gauge cluster....definitely one of a kind. Basically I'm a c&d fan. IMO they write good articles about cool cars and I like the layout better than MT.
The good thing about Boost is it gives you info on specific mods and this info is backed up with tests. Its not a magazine showing a bunch of modded cars without any track or test numbers. Kinda like the Big Brake Kit article. Pretty Interesting!!

all i gottah say.. when we take out the vette.. girls, old women.. hell even men stare.. its bad.. i aint never seen that kinds s*** in a civic. -=P and besides.. nothing like dumping the clutch and throwin the ass outgoing thru a intersection. -=P
vette > civic.

Yea I agree. The big brake article rocked. The magazine was very interesting and very informative. Much better than the other mags out there.

Not really a knock against C&D but if I was trying to beat a vette with a civic all $$ would go to the engine, tranny, and suspension. I haven't seen a body kit or graphics that would help.

it wolud not take 50k to out run a corvette in a civic at all my friend ran 11.6 at the track 3 weeks ago in a civic coupe and its street legal check it out at redzoneracing.com and checkout my site at teamfullyequipped.com

of course you could out-perform a z06 with a 50K civic, but I doubt you could do it and make the civic as comfortable. in that I mean that A LOT of the $50k price tag of the corvette is in comfort, amenities, and style. if you had a $50k corvette of nothing but engine, suspension, and shell then you would destroy a civic.

the LS-1 is no joke, and can take a ton of punishment if you were building one... Lingenfelter anyone?

I think its silly to think that a shell + $50K of engine COULDN'T beat a car that costs $50k TOTAL.

just silly

They comparison is kinda silly but C&D made that stupid remark. So what would you do if your only goal was to have the fastest all around car. Buy a 50k car or buy a cheap car and used the rest to make it fast?

I would build a kit car, fiberglass over tube frame. full on race car, twin turbo a LT-1 chevy V8. forged internals, etc.

way under 50K... it would own so hard

Well.....there are options; aren't there? Here's my choice!

The turboed vette's are rare and extremely expensive to put together.

A nice MTI heads/cam LS1 vette will run high 10's....

But; A Cobra will turn more heads than most anything!

I agree the cobra is sexy. I saw a real one at a gas station by my parents house once, 427 and all. It was neat.

you know..... only about 350 'real' 427s were ever built. And; they held so many records.....

0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds
0-100-0 in 13.8 seconds
