how to remove this??

i saw that next to the license plate lights there are two bolts holding it on. and on either side there are what looks like two covers for possible bolts to hide under, im not sure how to go about getting these off. has anyone had any experience with this at all? or possibly a DIY thread on this? pic of what im trying to get off to paint.

IIRC you have to pull the panel off on the back of the gate and get at it from that side.

Yup, you gotta pull off the interior panel, it is a pain in the a$$ which is probably why the PO let both burn out. It is easy once you the panel off. Be careful because I broke a couple of clips due to frustration and impatience.

that was my exact plan. already did the rear valance, and my mirrors were shot so i did them also. kinda off topic, but does anyone know where to get a trunk step. hatchkitten has one on hers and im lovin the look that it has with the rear valance being black.
