HOW TO: M6 Wagon Wiper on P5 ???

just got back home from traveling for work to find the box of parts! If the weather is nice tomorrow I'll install it!

good news, fellow Canadians(at least west coasters) - just priced this out at Freeway Mazda (Surrey) and their prices are pretty much the same (if not cheaper!) than onlinemazdaparts. wiper arm(gm9e67421) $19.89/ blade(g21b67330) $13.00. Didn't get a quote on the cover but if the other prices are any indication, it shouldn't be any more than a buck or two anyway. Remember, these quotes are CDN$, and no shipping$, either!! Guess who I'm calling tomorrow?

This mod won't work if you have a DGM CF spoiler. Just tried installing this morning, and it hits the underside of the spoiler every time the wiper goes by. It's not any longer, but it sticks up further than the stock one. You can make it work, but might need to cut the plastic on the bottom of the spoiler a bit.

How hard was it to cut the mounting area?? What tools did you use?? Can't wait to install mine this sunday.

I went and bought a basic dremel kit for 40 bucs. Took about 15-min to cut it down.

As far as the wiper being slower I haven't noticed any difference in speed at all. Did you maybe tighten down the wiper nut too tightly causing the motor to work harder?

hmmm...that is a possibility...maybe I'll go loosen it a notch tomorrow

yeah I just did this mod today and I notice it goes very slow, maybe I'll loosen a wee bit and see if that helps it. By the way, if you dont have access to a Dremel tool and you dont feel like filing for half an hour, take a hacksaw and cut it. It took me, seriously, about 30 seconds to do this, although I did have to finish it off with a file, total time about 5 minutes to do this. About another 5 minutes to do the collar piece, no sweat!

follow up...day after install.....

.....I found it was going too slow caused by some resistance. So off it came to do a bit more filing. I think the goal is to grind/file the base of the wiper mount so it is at least a flush surface. I also filed a bit more off the collar piece so that when it all goes back together its not binding up. The other thing I noticed is once you put the nut cover on you cant lift the wiper up all the way. Its a strange design - there's a tiny little piece on the cover that prevents it from lifting up to the "sprung open" position. Makes no sense to me, so I filed this part down(for this part a rotary tool would have been handy), so now I can spring it open when I'm washing my baby.

can you post a pic?? thanks

Mark, did you get your 'kit' from onlinemazdaparts.com? That is where I bought mine and the cap was included and if I remember correctly the cap was $1 thru Jason.
