HOW TO: M6 Wagon Wiper on P5 ???

Modified nut cover pics

Here's what I did with mine . I used a flat file, but a rotary tool(Dremel, ie.) would be perfect for the job. I also filed the rounded base of the wiper arm that sits in this space( careful not to go too far with this, you don't want too big of a gap here, looks wise.

Hey, after you pointed out your post on the previous pages, I went ahead and modified mine and took pics. I just used a dremel tool to eliminate the tab. Just adding my pics to yours. . .

first pic = cover with tab intact
2nd pic = shows the tab ground down, (dremel tool in foreground)
3rd pic = rear wiper installed, normal position
4th pic = illustrating how the wiper may be now lifted up away from glass.

Rained today..got to try it under real conditions. No problems! Great mod.

looks good, man. Hmmmm, never thought about grinding that whole tab right off, hope it doesn't affect the overall integrity of the piece or allow it to fall off too easily. Oh well, it's only worth about 2 bucks anyway, no biggie if it does break/fall off, huh?

Yeah i know that, I was asking if after the mod what happen when we want to change out the 6 blade, do we just order a OEM 6 blade? Or we have to buy the whole kit again or something?

Josh

It's 3 seperate parts. It's not a kit. So you would just order a new wiper blade. If I remember correctly, I paid about $13 for this. Not bad, cheaper than my flex w/s wipers.

Just used my fingers to bend that tab, and it breaks right off. thanks

The initial parts are arm, blade assembly & cover. The blade is also listed by itself for 6 bucks & change so no, you don't have to buy the assembly just to replace the blade.

Should I have bought an arm from a a specific year or is it because I'm in canada that the arm is different?

When I called the closest Mazda dealer for the arm, they asked me What year was my 6...
I've just said 2004 so I won't have to explain any further...

Anyway, Here's what it look like:

See? no teeths on the Mazda6's arm!

Here's the original P5 wiper arm (prety damaged actually...)

I intend to try to use it anyway... As soon as I put a hand on a dremel...
I think that just tightening the nut will make it work...

Anyone had the same wiper arm without the teeths?
did it worked?

By the way...
good news, fellow Canadians(at least west coasters) - just priced this out at Freeway Mazda (Surrey) and their prices are pretty much the same (if not cheaper!) than onlinemazdaparts. wiper arm(gm9e67421) $19.89/ blade(g21b67330) $13.00. Didn't get a quote on the cover but if the other prices are any indication, it shouldn't be any more than a buck or two anyway. Remember, these quotes are CDN$, and no shipping$, either!! Guess who I'm calling tomorrow?

I went directly to the dealer and paid cheaper than this... well.... Not that much cheaper, but I didn't had to wait for the parts to be delivered!
:)
18.87$ for the arm
12.44$ for the blade
1.38$ for the cover

I think the year is irrelevant. IIRC my wiper didn't have any "teeth" either. I think that the fact that the wiper collar is aluminum and the bolt is hardened steel, they just kind of bond together by torquing down the nut well. Don't over tighten, though, I think that can damage the wiper motor. Just make sure you file/ dremel that round "collar" piece down to a flush surface. Or else you WILL have some friction issue Between the wiper arm and the rubber piece(like I did 1st try) Then just take care of that tab thing we were talking about in previous posts so you can prop up the wiper when cleaning the window. Good luck!

I don't know about BC, but here in Quebec, it is VERY hard to keep a car clean of rust...
Even harder to find a clean one if you can't afford to buy new and keep it clean yourself!

Anyway, That's probably why I have to dismantle the wiper motor every 6 month or so to grease it...

Its there a part number list somewhere in this thread?
Sorry Kinda Lazy to browse or search...
Appreciate the help

Thanks for the tip... but have you tried... I did long time ago and theres no part numbers... atleast when you search "part number"...kinda funny when this is a how to with no actual part numbers and so many ppl have done it... Im sure someone actually has them and isn't posting.

If there is actual part numbers can someone point out the page and post number please :)
