how much are you paying for gas?

No, let's thank the hippies who don't want to drill in Alaska 'cause it might upset the Caribou. (jerkit) We get more oil from Mexico than we do the middle east.

Just for the record, even if the most optimistic estimates about the amount of oil in ANWR (13.2 billion barrels) are true that's still not enough to meet all US demand for even the next two years. The pessimistic estimates (5.9 Bbbls) wouldn't even hook us up for one year. And even if exploration started today, we wouldn't see drop one for at least 5 years. Hardly a long-term solution.

As much as I don't enjoy shelling out $2.75/gallon or whatever it is on a given day, part of me is happy to see these more realistic prices because they may open Americans' eyes to the reality that something needs to be done to curb our incessant thirst for oil.

Fact: the world's peak oil production, if it hasn't already occurred, will occur by 2010. After that, production has nowhere to go but down because oil is a FINITE resource. If demand continues to rise... well, you do the math.

Anyone hiding a cold fusion solution anywhere?

(mswerd) (mswerd) (mswerd) and offer more tax breaks for those who have a gas miser.

The thing I don't understand is why all the non-ULEV and non-LEV get better mpg. My wifes old 94 civic averages 38 mpg and we've gotten 49 out of it. My old 87 mustang 2.3L got 35!, My turbocharged 2.3L mustang got 28! My protege gets 35 tops. So it gets the same milage as a heavier car that turned more RPM on the highway AND had a motor that was around since 1974 in a friggin pinto. And the mustangs were quicker! Heck, even my 4000 lb Crown victoria with a huge amount of performance mods could get 24mpg!

the reason being that it uses more gas is that in order to quell certain forms of emissions more fuel is actually needed. During combustion when the air mixes with the fuel, gases are produced in certain amounts(some gases being more dangerous than others) and in order to "get rid" of the more harmful gases the amount of fuel added to the air needs to be adjusted during the combustion process. The goal of the the engine is to produce CO2/H2O and not CO or NOx. Also because we have two cats the motor has to work a bit harder to push the gases through the cats thereby causing to the engine to use more fuel to acheive the same power level if the cats were not there. think of your exhaust as a straw. its easier to blow through a wider straw than a narrow one right.....you don't tire yourself out as easily to blow the same amount of air.

Sure you could remove your cats for a bit more power but why pollute....removing cats is the dirty way to go when computer management will yield more power, better mileage and cleaner emmissions. car manufacturers are cheap and make cars on the conservative side thats just how it is...........if you could work it right your car could easily be a 14sec car and get 30mpg in town.

SUV sales are on a slow decline so that will sort itself out in a few years. But high horsepower cars are back in fashion again, and will be for some time. With no push to raise mpg rates and gas companies pulling in record profits there is little chance things will be changing this decade.

I've never been to London or Europe but my impression is that the cities are pretty compact, and of course they have had high fuel prices for a long time so they already have a better infrastructure (and planning) for this: better trains & bus systems, smaller and nearby stores so you can walk 5 to 10 minutes to get groceries plus other countries are used to buying fresher food daily rather than buying enough to last 2 weeks at a time. American's of course would never walk even 5 minutes to buy anything, so the entire country's development plans have always been big tracts of houses but no stores near by. We have to drive everywhere for food, entertainment, shopping, work, etc. Thus, every year our fuel needs increase. That won't change until we're paying $6 a gallon, and it will be a long time before city planning changes.

i pay 71,50euro/ 87.31 us$ for a tank of gas !!!!!!! so don't you dare to complain!!

I Paid 2.61 This Past Weekend In Dfw Area. Then In Louisiana I Paid 2.56 For The Cheap Stuff. I'm Not Complaining Yet But Damn. $30 Bucks To Fill Up A P5.

In NY if you lucky you can get 87 for $2.59 at EXXON but prices are 2.69/2.79/2.89 almost everywhere.

People here drive way slower than couple months ago. I see SUV-s on the right line doing 50-60mph. I would be slow doing 70mph a few months ago and they tried to run me over. Look who is laughing now.

gas has gone down .04 in the last 4 days oh my god. we might start to come out of this price hike. lol
