Now I read that China has started on a huge windfarm, plus other renewables, so that in 15-20 years they'll have an energy surplus. Why can't the U.S. have an energy plan like that?

Beacause this is America land of the gas guzzling SUV, where big oil companys have politicans in thier back pockets. Heaven forbids if oil and gas ever become obsolete to renewable sources, that would be a crime if those poor oil companys were to lose any money. /scarcasim off

I'm paying about $2.80 for 87 in Northern VA, while some places in MD, like Bethesda, are paying 2.92! Its crazy! I was talking to my neighbor and he was complaining that he can't get a full tank for his SUV anymore since the pump cuts him off at $60.. I remember in high school when i first started driving and I complained about paying $1.05 for 87.. i miss those days.. =(

True. You all need to do a little more research on top of your daily CNN watching. Truth is 90% of the media is liberal and against the war for false reasons.... then they spout off their agenda to the american public, relaying this bogus crap as actual facts. I have friends over in Iraq right now and all three of them tell me they couldn't find a way to be more proud than they are now for what they are doing. 95% of the people over there love the soldiers, and are glad we are changing their lives for the better and changing the worlds situation for the better (huh) . The fact that the battle ground is a oil field doesn't mean we are there for oil.. and we have obviously not benefited from it at all.. so obviously that isn't the case. Freedom isn't free guys, and remember the millions of people that were affected by 9/11, better to have the war there than here. Best defense is a good offense, so I say keep beating the s*** outa them rather than taking it up the ass.

BTW, Iraq has never been linked to 9/11, Bin Laden and the Saudis have.
Bin Laden=MIA
Saudis=Good buddies...

And if you don't think we are in Iraq because of oil, even if it's not the #1 reason, you should have your head checked.

You are 100% correct, we (you and I) will never benefit from the fact that there is oil there. The beautiful people will

This is what i'd like to see come about. Whenever the new mandate for diesel comes out, I'd like to see more diesels from overseas start to come over. Next I'd like to see the govt. tell the folks they're paying to NOT grow tobacco to start growing soy. Convert the soy to bio-diesel and tell OPEC and our "friends in the sandbox" to piss off. Hell, I'd like to see solar panels in homes, windmills on hilltops, and hydrogen and bio-diesel driving all cars. And if they can make a bio-diesel, why can't they come up with some form of bio-gas? I'm not a tree huggin hippie, but damn when you can harness the sun and wind for energy, why not do it?
And how many folks really need these big-ass SUV's? You don't need them in the winter. You need snow tires! Is it because they don't want a wagon? Who knows. I think depending on what you drive, you be taxed accordingly. Prove that you absolutely can't live without an SUV or pay a premium for it. I'm not saying folks don't need SUV's. I'm just saying a majority of folks don't.
If we ever switch to hydrogen, it will be like Mazda hitting the lottery. The rotary engine is so far the most fuel efficient hydrogen burner so far.
As long as big oil companies are camping out on Capitol Hill, we'll never get the technology ball rolling towards alternative energy sources in cars. I know we're getting hybrids, but we should have gotten those a long time ago.
Sorry for the rambling!

Is this really true. anybody have info on this statement?

I'm pretty sure I read it in Auto Week. I do know I've read it somewhere. I'll go scout it out and try to find a source. Don't want to get pwn3d for not knowing the facts.

bio-diesel is actually more expensive to manufacture than conventional gasoline, sure it burns cleaner, but you'll probably still be paying $3 at the pump ;)

I think toyota and honda are onto the right idea, at least for now, with the hybrids. The technology still needs a lot more work, but it reduces our dependency for the time being...

My car took almost $35 to fill last time at the pump. This is in little rhody. It's getting a bit rediculous....$35 to fill a protege?!? [sarcasm]Thanks GWB, you're doing an incredible job....[/sarcasm] (headshake

Still looking for what I saw about the Renesis being the most fuel-efficient hydrogen burner so far. Best I'm seeing is that it may the best motor to use as far as backfiring and such and that it would only need a second injector since the hydrogen is less dense.
I know that bio is expensive to produce, but if you can make it and sell it here, it should help the economy. I'm hating oil companies right now. I filled up and spent $30 and I was still at 1/4 tank. If we're going to spend that much on fuel I'd be happier knowing it was made here.

I think I may have stuck my foot in my mouth 'cause I can't find anything yet. Looks like the Renesis engine may be the easiest to convert. I'm retracting that statement until I can get my facts straight. I was just sure I'd read that somewhere. Forgive me. I'm still looking though, so I might find something.
Pwn3d by NJP5GUY for now!

hey, no worries. I think all cars should run off peanuts. the byproduct would be peanut butter........we'd have to grow made quantities of grapes though to keep up with the demand for jelly.

I honestly dont think we're in iraq because of oil... maybe i'm retarded then...

Us being in Iraq has only made things better... destroying a ton of terrorists, and bringing assholes to justice(Sadaam). If anything it was worth bringing freedom to people who couldn't create if for themselves. Obviously you take freedom for granted.
