How loud would this be?

all car audio is based on opinions, and nothing else. what sounds good to you, may sound like s*** to someone else.

got wake made a good point about subs having better specs than others, even though they may be inferior. never buy a sub on specs alone. each ear is different. listen, and buy what YOU like.

"never buy a sub on specs alone. each ear is different. listen, and buy what YOU like."

great answer. i'm sure there are several installs wehre the idmax sounds way better then the jl. and i'm sure there are several installs where the w7 sounds better. its all in the ears.

parks, what is so hard about not wanting a product because it's the flavor of the month? you said it yourself u didnt want a honda because everyone else has one. that right there shows me that u understand about flavor of the month, that doesnt mean i think the quailty is poor. it just means that when i see every kid and their mom wanting one, i tend to go the other way. just as you yourself said. u want to be diffrent so u didnt buy a honda. same goes here, i want to be diffrent so i don't buy jl. and as just as many on car sound said, u can find products of the same quality for less. so i choose to push people in that direction. u dont have to be a sheep and follow in everyones footsteps, a simple trip out to any local soundoff will show you allot of people willing to let u listen to the equipment they run. the biggest thing is installation, thats the biggest problem today. everyone assumes they can go buy a better sub and just throw it into a box then they get mad when their high dollar subs sound worse and not as loud as a decent sub in a quality built enclosure. installation is everything. if people knew this and took the time to do a quality install. they could buy equipment for half the cost and get better results. then if they had bough equipment at twice the price. and if a person is the type to only care what name is stamped on the basket, i generally won't even bother helping them.

servo, when i said sony i was just referring to their headunits, not their amps and speakers, back in the late 80's sony's headunits were top of the line, but i always had problems with reliabillity with them. reason i don't run sony now. as for ppi. they were the amps everyone wanted as well. top quality but then their vice president and all their top engineers and designers, left and started a small company called xtant. id was big for about 3 years when they were comming out with the hlcd's and it was a change from kickpanels and everyone jumped on the bandwagon for a few years.

yeah.. and I also said I did not have the money to buy 15 subs to find out which one I wanted. let alone having to build a bunch of boxes to get somethign working right. Like I said before I dont have the time or the money (and at that time the knowledge). Plus I got the JL sub right when they came out. there was no talk of brahmas or eD (that I knew of). and I was pretty new to the whole audio thing. I bought something that i had heard before. brands that me and my friends had been using. somethign that I coudl see in a store. I compared it to alpine, kicker, and all the other common store brands that you see in ovation and such. I dont have the interest in going to an audio show. I have school, senior project, paintball, I workout regularly. I jsut want to sound good. and I do. and I did it with a name I can trust. So I bought something that I knew woudl sound good. and the JL sub does sound nice and looks awesome.

I dont really think you have the room to talk about how much something cost. if I member right there is a post by you in the 1000 audio challenge where you are braging about how much you spent on your focal sub and rainbow componetns. I think that kinda shots your half price twice quality thing in the foot.

point being.. I am not saying there is nothign else out there. I know now you can buy other things. but that dont take away from the fact that if you buy JL you get a great warranty, you get to see it in the store, and a name you can trust. They are not the flavor of the month.. they have just earned the respect they deserve.

well u missed my point in the 1000$ post that was a joke, i myself am on a budget since i just bought a house. i still own a house in cincy that a friend is renting, and i snowboard, and golf and i'm getting back into tournament paintball as well as wakeboarding and car audio and competing in car shows. so i know how to stretch my money to get the best bang for the buck so to say. i think your not understanding what flavor of the month means. flavor of the month has nothing to do with how good or bad something is. i'll tell you again, jl makes great stuff, flavor of the month means that right now in the market, its what everyone is wanting, wether they know its good or not. they are the hot product right now wether you think so or not. i know they are, ive seen the hot product out for the last 15 years. jl is on the way out right now. so many people have them that they just start getting bashed, and in a year or so it will be a new product out there that everyone has to have. it's just the way things are. . i dont have the money to buy 15 subs, and as for enclosures, all it takes is one extra box, with a movable board inside to change interior volume and u can check out every available box size. or better yet call the company themselves and talk to the tech guys, they know more about the subs then jonny down the street. and it doesnt cost a dime. dont take offence when i say its the flavor of the month, again it doesnt mean that jl sucks. jl is a great company. but as you said it, u wanted something diffrent that not everyone else has. thast the same thing i want.

no offense taken.. I dont really care... paintball????l.. who you play with. I played there in Indy for awhile?? I play here at Purdue.. tell me more..

well i used to play about 8 years ago and everyone started getting married and buying houses and it got hard to play tournament ball ever month, exp. back then when a case of paint was 80$ and tournaments were 300-500.so we ended up quitting. but a couple of my old buddies started playing and now i'm hooked again, were starting a team up to play 5 man tournaments between here and cincy. i'll be playing probably at proving grounds the most. went and found a 2002 autococker and have been replacing parts on it left and right, will probably have a worrblade on it by summer. i'm still looking for a couple of guys, we need some front players.

a thread jack of a thread jack;)

paintball is awesome. i wish i had more money so i could play paintball AND buy audio stuff:( right now i only play every few months, and am looking into getting a tippmann A5 in a few months. prices have certainly dropped since i started playing back in '98. i'd drop $150 a day to rent a gun and buy a case of 2500 rounds:(

yeah.. this thread is really jacked.. paintball is where my money goes. I have a Gen E matrix and a aka/jmj feather light cocker (and tons of gear). I have 2 many hobbies also. Tippmans are good rec guns. I am not sure about now, but back in the day they made some tuff guns. you could beat those things and they would just keep on working. There are so many guns out there these days. you can get alot of them cheaper these days. I have not looked into them much. cause I have my gats. but if you want help picking one out let me know. I will do some research.

sndsgood, have you discovered aka yet? they are there in Indy. he makes the best stuff for cockers. he will set ya up. he has really nice regs also. might want to look him up if you hvae not yet. www.akalmp.com. I am going to tell you that his stuff is not cheap, but great for a cocker. if you have been out for awhile you are in for a surprize. everything is electronic now. it is all about power. you bout gotta shot electronic. you have to have the speed to put people down. and they dont go out in one shot. the cheaters can really cheat. I grew up with a cocker in my hands one balling fools all day long, but these days you cant be afraid to shoot the paint. I am shooting almost 20 balls / second every game. Shooting alot of paint dont make a bad player a good player, but when I good player shoots alot of paint it makes it hard for the other team to move. hard to come out when you have balls coming inchs apart by your bunker. if you are playing over at PG then you prob know sigman and that he has a shop over by keystone (is that right). I personally like gator joes. Rod is a supper guy. it is over on girls school off of washington. I recomend getting all your supplies there. he has great prices and will work with ya. specially if you are a regular customer. he was always really good with cockers to (if I member right, I have always done my own work). you should not have a problem finding front players. just talk to the people at the shops that is where everyone hangs out. there are so many players in Indy. I am playing with the Purdue team and I am trying to work some tryouts out with Enemy. good luck with your paintball.. we will have ot play sometime. We play at the paintball barn.. I think it si in attica. I don trelaly know I just go there. we come ot PG every once in a great while. just let me know.

yeah i know what u mean by the electros, found that out when i helped my buddy out last summer in a tournament i got nailed the first three games cause i was taking my time getting to my back bunker and they were just nailing that spot over and over, after the 3rd game i said forget this shooting and jogging to my bunker, just run flat out. and once i got that tooken care of i got back in the swing of things, i'm almost positive my gun will be electro by summer time. i mean heck i havent' shot one ball thru my gun yet and ive allready replaced the entire front block, the bolt the barrel, i'm looking at internal valves right now and i have new grips on the way. ive always used cockers well after my mag blew an o-ring in a tournament anyway, i think my last cocker i owned was serial# 1400 proving ground is nice to me because my house is right off of 38 so it will be a 10 minute drive to the field. ive been up to indy extreme a few times. they seem pretty cool. ive stopped by gator joes as well. just allot farther for me to get to.i'm just starting to sort out whos got good stuff and who's just junk for cockers, i mean last time i played our choices of aftermarket were bob longs stuff, or something stock that had been chromed lol

and yeah this thread got jacked didnt it lol but i think it was done with anyway.

I have always played with an aka cocker for the most part. I had body number 00004 when I had my first aka cocker. and if it was my choice everyone woudl still play with cockers. but it has evolved way past that. I still play with my cocker some. just dont have the power that is needed. I would have an electro cocker, but since we are sponsered by gen e I got a good deal an a matrix with eyes. not free.. I wish, but a decent price. and they are fast. and I am working on making it faster.

gator joes is a great place. they are unorganized, but they have good deals. just have to get to know them. it is worth the time. indy extreme is organized better, but he wants a fortune for everything. I have known the owner chris for every and he wont even cut me a deal. I am really busy in the next weeks to come. but when I get some time we will meet up. well.. back to work.. lata

paintball rules. ive played it once and i dont know s*** about the guns and equipment, but i had more fun with that $80 than i have had in a long time
